Roald Amundsen | Antarctica Cruise

Named after the legendary polar explorer Roald Amundsen, this vessel is designed for sustainable exploration. Launched in 2019, the MS Roald Amundsen is equipped with a hybrid propulsion system that reduces environmental impact, making it one of the greenest ships sailing today.

Additionally, the MS Roald Amundsen features an ice-strengthened hull, ensuring safe and smooth navigation through icy waters.

Our trip began

Visit Antarctica with one of our trips

As we stepped on board the Roald Amundsen, we were greeted by the promise of modern amenities and spacious cabins. Indeed, the ship provided a comfortable haven amidst the icy expanse, allowing us to unwind and immerse ourselves in the journey.

The heart of our expedition lay in the daily landings, each one unfolding with the promise of intimate encounters with Antarctic landscapes and wildlife. Despite occasional weather-related disruptions, each landing presented a unique opportunity for exploration and discovery, deepening our appreciation for this pristine wilderness.

Yet, along with the thrill of exploration came the reality of unforeseen delays and itinerary adjustments. Adverse weather conditions often necessitated deviations from our planned route, extending our stay in Antarctica and adding an element of unpredictability to our journey. While cancellations could be disappointing, they served as a reminder of the challenges inherent in polar travel and the need for flexibility.

Amidst these challenges, however, were moments of pure enchantment. From towering icebergs to playful penguins, the Antarctic ecosystem captivated us with its diversity and splendor. Kayaking expeditions and science boat outings provided immersive experiences, allowing us to forge a deeper connection with the environment and its inhabitants.

Transitioning from Antarctica to the Falkland Islands offered a welcome change of scenery. Remote and pristine, these islands served as a wildlife oasis, boasting abundant flora and fauna against a backdrop of breathtaking landscapes. Each day brought new wonders, from the quaint charm of Stanley to the untouched wilderness of West Point and Carcass Islands. Wildlife enthusiasts like us reveled in the opportunity to observe penguin colonies and diverse bird species in their natural habitat, leaving us with cherished memories to last a lifetime.
