@NickPann
Set in a great location just 10 mins walk from the main square this hotel cannot be appreciated until you pass through the large yellow doors that screen it from the street. The bedroom was a good size with all the amenities one would need creatively designed. Dinner was great and the breakfasts were the perfect start to a day’s walking around Quito. Staff were all excellent.
@claref710
Unassuming from the outside but wait until you enter by a courtyard with water. Our room had an amazing view of the winged Madonna, Virgin of Quito. The staff were so welcoming & helpful. The food is amazing & recognised as the best in Quito. Unforgettable stay. Thanks to the Chef and all the staff.
@kiwigirly
We booked a 3 night stay at Illa, which didn’t quite go as planned but we were very thankful for the kindness from ALL the staff. We arrived rather late on our first day and while we had booked a room on the second floor, we were very unfortunately put in a room on the ‘lower ground floor’. This room was at the bottom of the stairs as you enter the hotel, with 3 windows at high level, facing the road, that had opaque glass and bars on them so there was little natural light and zero view. The room was also very noisy with people coming and going early in the morning. We asked to be moved on the second day but were told the hotel was full, however they could move us the following day for our last night. This was extremely disappointing as this was the start of a very special and long awaited holiday. I cannot fault the staff as they were all extremely nice and as helpful as they could be given the fact there were no available rooms. So to try and make us happy they provided us with a complimentary spa treatment and dinner at a local restaurant, La Vid, which was wonderful. When we moved to a room higher up in the hotel it gave us a much better experience and appreciation of the hotel. All praise to the staff who were all lovely and the latter accommodation was perfect, it was just an unfortunate incident which our travel agent is investigating.
@sachaniemi
This is a truly lovely boutique hotel, in the heart of the historic region. It is on a quiet street, and is a previous home turned into hotel. The rooms are gorgeous, and the bathroom is spacious. The beds were very comfortable, and the service and friendliness of the staff is unbeatable. The food, including breakfast and dinner, at the hotel has a mix of Local and other choices, and was delicious. The staff was very helpful, to the point of even having sandwiches ready for us in our room when we had a later than expected arrival. I would highly recommend this lovely hotel, for the beauty and comfort of the rooms, and the friendliness and service of the staff.
@D629HFdebrak
Do not miss out on this beautiful & newly renovated hotel in the Old City of Ecuador. The rooms, common areas and spa area were clean and beautifully decorated. Our stay included a beautiful breakfast spread, an afternoon hot beverage offering and a free traditional crafting or cultural activity every afternoon. The chef, Juan Carlos was very responsive to our vegetarian requests and went way out of his way for us. The hospitality and generosity we experienced from the staff was amongst the best we’ve ever received during our trips abroad. Muchos Gracias!
@FrankMeerle
We stayed for 6 days in this wonderful hotel. The location is excellent in the old centre with everything in walking distance. The room had a view on Plaza San Francisco and was spacious, luxury and very complete. The breakfast is the best buffet ever and the staff is fantastic, especially Freddie, Bladimir, Rene and Angelo. Thanks for a fantastic stay. We will be back.
@wayneb652
Lived up to expectations, and more! The warm reception and welcome drink was a great start after a long travelling day and drive from the airport (45 mins on a public holiday evening). We booked a junior suite with balcony, although the weather was such that we didn’t use the balcony in our two night stay, it gave a good size room and amenities and great view through the trees. We took advantage of the pleasant evening on arrival to enjoy the rooftop terrace with fantastic all around views from its prime location in the Old Town. The Tapis was perfect for us and service friendly including agreeing to open a bottle of bubbly for us to use over the two nights. Food was very good throughout, breakfast, dinner and the occassional snacks. Similarly, the staff, without exception, were friendly and efficient. No hesitation in recommending.
@iamkimmycoz
This is clearly the most luxurious hotel in Quito & every part of it -- from the staff, to the decor, to the food, to the location -- is top notch! I could not have picked a better place to stay to start off my trip in Ecuador. I stayed in a beautiful room overlooking the square and the windows in the main room must be double-pane because I took a nap and closed the door to the bathroom (which I believe has only single-pane windows) and slept like a baby. The room is gorgeous and the beds/pillows extremely comfortable. The hotel is an old historic mansion and it definitely feels like it. I enjoyed a cocktail and tapas at happy hour on the rooftop and although pricey, it was some of my favorite food from my entire 2 week trip in Ecuador. The complimentary breakfast is a nice touch (basic items but they were good). Everyone that works there is extremely helpful, pleasant, and always smiling. I'd definitely recommend this place and compare it to a "Four Seasons" type brand & experience -- yes, it's expensive, but less expensive than staying at a Four Seasons or similar.
@Q8517ACjenniferj
Casa Gangotena proved to be the perfect home base for exploring Quito. Its location in the heart of the historic district is unbeatable, and the friendly staff made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The elegant ambiance, combined with excellent cuisine and impeccable service, truly elevated our stay.
@PEPPERPOTS99
This hotel is in a stunningly restored building and probably is one of the best places to stay in Quito. Staff are helpful and attentive. Our room faced the square, which was a lovely outlook. Just misses 5 stars based on room amenities - no fridge, no full length mirror and woeful aircon. But have no hesitation in recommending for a stay in Quito
@379karinad
Stayed in this hotel for 2 nights after moving out from another hotel. The room was lovely with a view of the mountains. Spacious room with a good sized bathroom. Breakfast was good with freshly cooked eggs. Location excellent. A few minutes walk to the main attractions. The staff was exceptional. Informative and kind. Organized a taxi for us to take us to the next destination. Nothing was too much trouble. Definitely recommended.
@jeanfA5437XX
This was the perfect place to stay for our first 2 nights in Quito. Hotel Plaza Grande, a beautiful grand hotel right on the Plaza in Quito’s historic old town, embodies its name. Entering the lobby, we were greeted with a large vase of Ecuadorian roses and a warm welcome from the Concierge. The staff is excellent and were very accommodating to 2 tired travelers. Our room was immaculate and generously sized with a lovely sitting area, comfortable bed and well supplied bathroom. Luxury and comfort.
@SophieVa-PaulRe
A beautifully maintained hotel which truly meets the credo for “location, Location, location”, the Plaza Grande is where you want to be when visiting Quito, right in the heart of the historical quarters. From irreproachable service provided by its staff, to gorgeous antique furniture, Hotel Plaza Grande delivers the quintessential features of the long-lost art of hosting travelers, basically offering more than a room and a breakfast, but in fact an experience to remember. If your palette is more into modern edifices, remember that the Plaza Grande is an historical building with a few quarks, and the price is somewhat above average.
@Robert937
Built in the 1930s the five storeys' high hotel in the old town of Quito stands out amidst other colonial era buildings. The contrast between the luxury hotel (rooms from 500$ per night) contrasts the generally poor neighborhoods that surround it. The architectural style as well is rather different from the Archbishop's palace next-doors and the Government palace at the other side, as it looks rather pomp and ritzy.
@Crcb
This hotel is quite comfortable. Our room was large and ornately decorated the bathroom had a huge tub with a rain shower and plenty of hot water and good water pressure. The bed was quite comfortable and there were ample pillows. The first night there was a rise and chocolate on the pillow and roses on the bathroom, as well as a selection of desserts on the coffee table - a very welcome greeting after a long flight! The desk personnel speak English and are very anxious to please. Internet was free and fast. The restaurant has limited options for breakfast, which was the only time we ate there, but the food was good, if uninspired. The location is fabulous - right next to the presidential palace on the main square and an easy walk to anything in the Old Town. If you like hotels with character and charm, you will love this one.
@pablopW3410GU
The service from the parking lot guards to the waiters is totally attentive and they try to resolve what the customers need. It is clear that there is mutual support among the staff. I think it would be convenient to expand the restaurant's spaces Review Tips
@908navy
Stay was generally good. Roxana at the front desk was exceptional in assisting on numerous things. One thing they could improve on is providing a tissue box in the room. Also the shower drain was blocked but they did fix it quickly when notified
@ruthhK5500SX
The chef's attention is cordial and the food is always exquisite. I enjoy the food and I like to go frequently. Congratulations on the preparation of the lunches and the varied menu, I hope that the quality is maintained and distinguishes them. Thank you.
@942travelerb
Big Kudos to Jessica the attendant at the restaurant! She was genuine caring. She promptly accommodated my son dietary needs. Very thankful for her kindness. Definitely a very good service. Oh I forgot very yummy breakfast!! I am a world traveler and that type of kindness make a very good experience, and definitely stay again in this hotel!
@G9339VWnickb
Fabulous hotel, which is very well located for the park and train station, which are both just minutes away. There is also a very large shopping centre opposite. The hotel is very well staffed and there was always someone around who could speak English, which was very useful. The rooms on the top floor are really big and there is a very efficient air con system. Breakfast was the best we had on our whole trip, with a large variation of options, including an excellent selection of delicious fresh fruit. For a 3 star hotel, I really can’t see how you can get any better than this
@JohnsJournal
Dikaty Chocolate shop at Patio Andaluz in Quito offers a sensory journey into Ecuador’s rich chocolate-making tradition. From the moment we entered, the warm aroma of cocoa set the stage for an unforgettable experience. The friendly staff greeted us with enthusiasm and shared their deep passion for chocolate. The small shop, with its cozy seating and inviting atmosphere, made it easy to relax and learn about Ecuador’s prized cacao, particularly the Cacao Arriba variety known for its floral and fruity notes. The experience began with an informative presentation about the history and process of chocolate making, from fermenting cacao beans to roasting and tempering. We learned about Ecuador’s unique approach to planting cacao alongside other plants, which influences its flavor profile. The tasting was the highlight—each bite was an explosion of flavor, with chocolates ranging from rich dark varieties to exotic Amazonian infusions like coffee and cacao bean jelly. Standouts included the cacao nib chocolate, cardamom chocolate, and the tart Sun Lime chocolate. Beyond the tasting, Dikaty offers beautifully packaged chocolates, perfect for souvenirs or indulgent treats. The hot cocoa was one of the richest and most indulgent I’ve ever had, and the chocolates are truly exceptional. Whether you’re a chocolate connoisseur or simply looking to explore Ecuadorian culture, a visit to Dikaty is a must. Plus, it’s free!
@PALTravel
Our initial room was strange. Sofa downstairs and up spiral stairs was the bed and bathroom. Not easy to navigate BUT we asked for another room and they were very accommodating. Our new room was two queen beds, and all on one floor. Much nicer. The staff is incredible. We checked in at 2:30am. We asked if we could, last minute, book a guide for the next day and they made it happen. Any question or request was met with a smile. Buffet breakfast with made to order eggs and protein was excellent. Coffe was exceptional and again, the staff was great. I would highly recommend.
@jssinc
Lovely stay. Beautiful historic building. Wonderful staff. Everything very good! Great two night stay. Wish I could have stayed longer. Fancy coffees included in breakfast buffet in pretty courtyard. Perfect location for exploring downtown on foot. As a single woman I felt very safe.
@333jacquelinep
Hotel Patio Andaluz is filled with history, charm and exquisiteness 🤗🤌🏽🌹 the location is close to everything near Centro Historico which was a plus! The decor throughout the hotel is 16th century type feel to it. We had double bed room and the bed was sooo comfortable ❣️ but the best part of the hotel was the STAFF! Very accommodating and tend to your every need. Gracias everyone!!
@jonathanbU3261WD
I went just to the restaurant but it was an absolutely lovely experience from start to finish. The staff (especially our server, Christian) was friendly and attentive and every dish was elevated to a level of quality and excellence not found within miles. The ceviche and cevichocho was delicious, and the affogato was a real standout, not to mention the incredible views from practically every seat in the house. This made my first visit to Ecuador truly memorable, and I can't wait to return.
@500stantons
Elvia was an amazing therapist who helped me feel relaxed and fixed the knots in my back, and the full experience was definitely worth it. I felt so relaxed and my whole body felt improved after the experience. I recommend it if you are staying at go hotel, you will not regret it!
@aymiem2023
We had a wonderful experience at the spa. I enjoyed a massage and a facial. My technician, Irene, was wonderful. Polite, peaceful, and talented. It was a very relaxing and enjoyable experience. And the tea afterwards was the agave honey on the cake. I can’t wait to come back.
@M3423OUtonyh
5 it was a very much needed massage and Flor was amazing and really helped work out a lot of stiff muscles and joints. The Spa is a very calming and relaxing atmosphere and the offerings cover everything you will need to relax and enjoy the massage
@CataEspina
This hotel has an amazing spa with different services. It is a harmonious, clean and very pleasant space. I received excellent service from the moment I entered the hotel and even more so from the masseuse who was attentive to my requests and preferences.
@BeaversTravelWell
I cannot say anything bad about the staff interactions at this hotel, all were excellent. Our room was clean and well appointed. A little dated side but nice. Meals we had at the hotel were very good. The hotel is in a very nice area of City of Quito.
@surftravel51
2 night stay as part of our cruise package. Might be the nicest hotel with the best service we've ever stayed in! Spacious, quiet, and comfortable room. Lobby area was beautiful with fresh roses changed out throughout the day. Service was above and beyond from every staff member. Although we didn't have time, the fitness room was as big as a commercial gym with a fitness instructor on hand (when we went to check it out). Breakfast buffet was huge with a "made to order" station and multiple options of hot & cold items. Can't say enough about this stay, and this would be our FIRST choice of hotels when staying in Quito!
@wayneb652
Stayed two nights as part of a pre-cruise air package organised by Silverseas. The door staff and reception were excellent, very welcoming and efficient and the checkin process smooth. We had a deluxe room which was a good size/amenity and view of the Volcano, but being in level three you could hear the noise from the restaurant/disco in the forecourt areas, which thankfully stopped at 10pm. On the upside, we had a window that opened. On the first evening, we had eaten at lunchtime, so looked for a light meal, the only availability being the lobby bar which wasn’t great, especially with fairly loud music. On the bright side food wise, there is an excellent cafe in the adjoining shopping arcade and the specialist restaurant, Botanica, offered an excellent Ecuadorian menu, the food was excellent but the service from the kitchen very slow. Breakfast was an excellent buffet and egg station etc.
@amberr954
LOVELY PROPERTY! Situated in an excellent and pedestrian area of the city. Very accessible. My room was extraordinary comfortable, and well appointed. Many food and drink options within the property, but also plenty to choose from in walking distance too. All JW staff were multi-lingual and very knowledgeable of the city and tours. I would absolutely choose this property again. (The sushi was not good though in one of the hotel restaurants...but the wine was!).
@prm78
When I go to a new city for the first time I generally chose a chain hotel to be certain that I will have no unwelcome surprises! But the Hilton Colon is a step above that, hence the five stars. It has spacious rooms, extremely well designed and furnished, plenty of closet space, with a large bathroom with individual toiletries (dying out nowadays1). We had a high floor looking out on the El Ejido park: superb view of the Gothic Cathedral and the city with its surrounding mountains. It has a large well-equipped gym, with some view, or you can do a few circuits of the park if you prefer. Location could not be better: steps from the metro, only 2 quick stops to Plaza San Francisco right in the center (at 45 cents). There are multiple fine restaurants within reasonable walking distance, and a night-life zone at Plaza Foch. Price is extremely reasonable.
@traveltalesofales
This tiring Hilton offers a mix of luxury, comfort, and a few minor inconveniences. The hotel offers a blend of modern amenities and traditional Ecuadorian charm, making it an acceptable choice for those looking for a reliable place to rest while exploring the city. Its large, spacious layout and excellent security offer a feeling of safety and ease. The on-site restaurants and facilities cater to both business and leisure travelers, making it a convenient option. While I had a generally pleasant experience, a couple of aspects could use improvement, particularly regarding the room’s maintenance and check-in process. LOCATION:The Hilton Colón is in a prime area, close to many of Quito’s top attractions, including La Mariscal, the historic Old Town, and the vibrant artisan markets. It's located in a relatively peaceful area, which is a nice contrast to the busy parts of the city. However, the surroundings can feel somewhat dated, and the immediate area doesn’t have much nightlife or activity within walking distance. It’s still central enough for easy access to restaurants, shopping, and transportation. DINE + DRINK: Didnt have a chance to try their F&B options to comment on them ROOM: We stayed in Room 1453, so this review is based on that; SIZE: Spacious enough for 2 adults and simple baggage; VIEW: Sweet view of the sprawling city and the hilltop houses; AIR-CON: Perfectly functioning cooler that helped in setting the perfect room temperature; BED: Comfortable bed that played the expected part of putting us to sleep; BATHROOM:Good sized bathroom with a Stand-in shower; TOILETRIES: Good quality toiletries FACILITIES: Decent Gym with a basic range of weights and Cardio machines SERVICE: Friendly staff that cared for all our needs with a smile and made us feel at welcome and taken care of. HOW WIRED YOU WILL BE: Free Wi-Fi that works well all over the property, and the speed is Barely OK(11 Mbps)! Medium sized Smart TV dishing out a wide variety of channels spanning sports, news, music, movies, and entertainment in multiple languages
@PhilD614
Lunch for 6. Shopping stop for food and came to Hilton. We were staying at JW Marriott. Our Hilton lunch was fabulous. Super service and pleased every need and request. A must. We will stay here on next quito visit. Cerviche, soups, avocado, guacamole all excellent.
@podrozniczka60
This hotel is very comfortable and pleasant. We found our room functional and spacious. We had a king size bed and the mattress was particularly comfortable, much more so than average one in most places. Also extra pillows! The usual fridge, coffee and tea station but no microwave. The included breakfast was excellent. It was buffet style but with many waiters hovering around and helping with tea and coffee. There was an egg/ omelette station. The concierge was very helpful. All operations - like checking in and out -are done smoothly. The location is very convenient and the subway station is very near. Easy to reach the old city historic Quito .
@LowellAckerman
We stayed at this hotel twice during our recent trip and both times were excellent. The rooms were well-appointed, and the customer service was wonderful. As a bonus, the breakfast buffet was top notch. We really enjoyed our stays here, and hope for an opportunity to return in the future.
@wayneb652
A brilliant concept, exceptionally well executed. We spent two nights and would certainly recommend 3, whether you are seeking an immersive ecological experience, relaxing break in the wonderful environment of the rainforest, gastronomical experience or a combination as we were. Yes, the drive from Quito took 3 hours, but two thirds is on a good highway, with the last hour on un-made roads/tracks, not to be unexpected in a rainforest. We took advantage of transfers from the hotel, ensuring the drivers, Diago and Danial, knew the roads and terrain well and so minimised the bumpiness as much as practical. Suffering from motion sickness myself, I eat sensibly beforehand - both ensuring that I felt good in both legs of the journey enjoying the views, even managing the nice lunch box provided by the hotel for the return journey! For us, there was nothing to dislike; our guide, Estuardo, ensured that each of our three times a day activities were great; educational and enjoyable and catering for a mixed ability/age group, we especially loved the walk along/through the creek, visiting waterfalls etc.. He certainly went to extraordinary lengths to find us great wildlife. The sky bike and dragonflies are amazing ways to experience the cloud canopies and all that the forest can offer, well organised throughout and the staff patience and support, enabled Julie to overcome her vertigo in spectacular style! The reception and hospitality staff capped off the experience with exceptional levels of service and thoughtfulness, not to mention food!
@PJM1970
This is a magical place. An immaculate, well appointed luxury ecolodge right in the middle of pristine cloud forest. You could soak up the forest doing very little but we took advantage of all the nature based activities with the help of our personal guide, who came with the package. We did the Hummingbird garden, Life centre, air bike, Drafonfly and an adventurous walk through the Magnolia river to swim in the Magnila pools and waterfall. The food was exquisite and all the staff were courteous and attentive.
@PEPPERPOTS99
We had high hopes for this property but it did not meet our expectations. The drive there is awful and takes three and a half hours - bumpy road for 40 minutes and windy the rest of the time - not for the faint hearted. If anyone gets car sick don’t even consider going. Mashpi has done a wonderful job in providing work for the local community - it is shame they have a policy on husbands and wives not being able to work on the property together - this makes it hard for families. Also it is tough for staff that even if they are local they have to stay onsite for 2 week shifts - there used to be a shuttle bus to take staff back to the local town at the end of the day but I think cost cutting has won out. In our opinion really nothing about this lodge stands out - with the big exception of the restaurant food and service. The food was among the best we have had in our South American travels - shout out to Darwin who looked after us so well. The rooms have a gorgeous outlook but are by no means luxurious - tiny bath towels and even tinier dressing gowns. In terms of the rainforest experience- it wasn’t remarkable - the walks were all very similar and not overly exciting. There is minimal wildlife just lots of insects - apparently there are sloths and monkeys - but most of the guides said they are very hard to locate. Perhaps this is suited to families with little kids who get excited about insects and small birds. Speaking of little kids - this is where the lodge caters most to - certainly as an older couple we did not enjoy the sounds of crying toddlers. Some of the guides are great but by no means all of them. There is nothing to do when not on an activity - perhaps a pool table or even table tennis could be a good idea or even just a games cupboard. Another thing to mention is guests with different ability levels - you will find yourself in a group that is painfully slow - especially with little ones or older guests - effort needs to be made to match guest skill levels when working out groups for activities. Another disappointment was the jacuzzi - we thought it would be overlooking the rainforest but it is behind a large screen with no outlook. Avoid getting massage - the worst hot stone massage ever - had no idea what she was doing! For us as a couple who have travelled extensively this lodge is far from luxury and biggest let down or our one month trip to South America.
@adriangane
The most amazing wilderness experience;the guides help you see frogs,hummingbirds,and many others.The rooms are great with comfortable beds;the food and wine/beer and cocktails also great;they also make great barista coffee. All this while preserving the local environment
@CherylDD599
Oh my goodness, this place is fabulous. The rooms are amazing, the food is sensational and worthy of Michelin stars, the staff are lovely, the birds are stunning. Everything about it is remarkable. Is it cheap? No. Is it worth it? Absolutely. You will never forget your visit. I know I certainly won’t. Thank you to Marc, Jonnathan, Edison, Xavier and all who looked after me so well. Worth mentioning that they have a doctor on staff, visits and medication is included and the doctor helped solve my illness. Turns out I was allergic to the altitude meds.
@zoobrawlg
It was an amazing rain forest experience with the best employee service and a spectacular view of the rainforest and rio Blanco. The night walk with Jose was unforgettable and he showed us many native species including a monkey.

Love the service… the people working there make every effort to make your stay a memorable experience. However I think the beds where kind of small and also they put a baby in the room next door and was impossible for me and my family to get a good night sleep
@SJTCA
Stayed at Kapari for three nights in April. This is a lovely 12 room hotel. We had a larger room with two double or queen beds. We were on the bottom /lower floor totally private on the edge of the property. Loved our room! We had an incredible view with a large floor to ceiling glass window wall looking over the beautiful cloud forest. The staff was outstanding. The Manager, Jose, was a marvelous host and very helpful at all times. The bartender and server, also Jose, was warm, engaging and excellent at his job. We had a guide just for us. Other guests also had a guide. The hotel had low occupancy during our visit and they bent over backwards to provide us any service we needed. The entire staff was great. I knew all their names when I left but didn't write them down - Darn. Wish I could mention them all. All were so friendly and helpful. There are four activities with a guide per day. Early morning birdwatching, two day hikes, evening walks, and hummingbird feeders in special area... and of course swimming and resting if you didn't want to do all the activities. Photo attached of schedule. My partner did do them all. I did not and booked a hot rock massage which Manager Jose arranged. It was wonderful. There is a nice tranquil spa room they have a masseuse come in from town for bookings. Once at the hotel you will find needing things to support your activities. Rain/mud boots, walking sticks, umbrellas, yoga matts, hairdryer etc. Anything you ask for Lilianna ( head of housekeeping) appears with item for you! She is amazing. Also photo attached of all the gear we borrowed. We ate all our meals at Kapari. Lovely food. Simple, healthy and delicious. They didn't have a wine by the glass that I like and they went out and secured me a few bottles of better wine for me. They were always ready for my glass of wine needs. Top service! It is about 3 hours from Quito. It is on the equator exactly. You can take a picture 5 minutes down a trail and you on 0°N 0°E There is a town or two nearby we drove through but didn't go back to visit. But you can if you want to leave the property. Absolutely a lovely place to visit.
@SueB2531
We stayed at Kapari Natural Lodge & Spa for three nights. Everything was perfect from the scenic drive there to the delicious meals to daily walks and birdwatching with professional guides. The rooms were lovely, beds comfortable and night sounds lulled us to sleep each night. Service was wonderful and the staff treated us like family.
@lore9210
Our group of 11 stayed at Kapari for 2 nights, 3 days. Our stay was incredible. The tours through nature with an experienced guide will take your breath away, and the food is local, fresh and incredibly tasty. The service at the lodge is amazing, and if you are hoping to relax, their SPA menu includes many different options - all equally amazing.
@guidethrudarkness
I read some of the reviews posted here for Bellavista Cloud Forest Lodge and it almost seemed like they were describing a different location than the one I just visited. The facilities were new and although fairly simple, they were clean and well maintained. The staff was friendly and attentive - providing for any reasonable needs. The facility hosted a New Years Eve event where we made our own Año Viejo doll, had some dancing, entertainment, and a great meal - and then burned the dolls in the parking lot to toast the New Year. The food was good and they were able to accomodate my dietary restrictions easily. I went for birding, and was able to add over 80 new species to my life list with ease. My guide was knowledgeable, and helped teach me not only about the local birds, but also about the other plant and animal life (Thank You Gabriel!) Photography of birds is always a challenge, but the way Bellavista is set up, there are many opportunities for great photos. I will say that I was not prepared for the weather. December/January in the cloud forest is wet and cool. If you go at this time of year, please take some warm clothes and maybe some hand warmers. There are only small portable heaters available for the rooms and they are not meant for overnight or longer term use. (This would be where my recommendation for a fire pit would come in!) Overall, it was a great experience and I would love to visit again.
@darrengA3110ZI
We stayed for two nights and had a great time. Obviously the lodge is isolated which is part of the experience so make sure your transfer driver is aware of the terrain beforehand! Rosa and Christian are super friendly and helpful and our guide Luke was great fun to spend time with. We are not ‘twitchers’ but appreciate all different forms of nature so really appreciated the whole experience. We especially loved all of the hummingbird activity and hikes at different times of day. The ladies in the restaurant are charming and warm..thankyou. Our room in the German house was as expected..only a new shower head would improve it. We would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Ecuador.
@Nancy_Ottawa
We were a party of 8, including 3 kids who can be picky eaters at home but absolutely loved the food and rated each meal better than the last. The hikes were well paced for our diverse ages, kids, parents and active grandparents. The viewing stations attracted many different birds, hummingbirds. Two tayras (giant bushy tailed weasel/badger) stopped by to grab a banana from the bird feeding station. We also saw a kinkajou and of course, the olinguito visited each night. We stayed in the new Montane Vista units, very clean, spacious and comfortable - a little piece of paradise high on a ridge in the middle of the cloud forest. All of the staff were accommodating and pleasant. Transportation from Quito to the Lodge was included in our price. The roads are winding at times and the last portion is rough - we were extremely pleased with our excellent driver. Could not have had a better experience - the kids all said they hope to come back again someday!
@Eggweena
What an amazing experience! The lodge is stunning, the guides are incredibly knowledgeable and all the staff go out of their way to ensure you have a wonderful stay. I felt like I’d stepped out of this world and entered another one for my overnight stay. Just an incredible place and congratulations to Richard and his team
@larrainek308
We spent two days here and it’s a beautiful location for nature and birds , the guided walks are so good and knowledgeable so many different birds. Credit to all the staff who are so helpful and feeding the hummingbirds was such a privilege. The lodges are wonderfully located taking advantage of its natural environment and the food was delicious
@Spinnylinnie
Oh what an amazing three nights we had here in de Dana! Our room was superb with the beautiful and private surroundings of lush, tropical gardens. Very quickly the staff became our friends: Marco, Angel, Josselyn….the service was impeccable with everyone going above and beyond to make our stay most pleasant. The restaurant was a bonus with delicious meals and lots of variety. Marco arranged our hiking and bird watching (highly recommended and saw more than expected with Julia) expeditions just like that! We will come back to our amazing Mindo and all it has to offer.
@AldousAU
We stayed at the lodge for seven days to bird around Mindo. We were happy with the communication between the lodge and us from pre-sale, quotation, confirmation, arrival, and pick-up. This made us feel safe and comfortable on our first trip to Ecuador. Since I was born and stayed at low altitude land, I have had altitude sickness over 2500m. Yes, I had altitude sickness at Quito. Although the altitude of Mindo is relatively low, the birding conversation site may be around 3500m. I had asked David for help before we flew to Ecuador. On the first day of the birding trip, our driver, Alferdo, brought up a portable oxygen cylinder in the drawer and told me that in case I felt altitude sickness. David said he had been looking for this for a while, thanked me for my inquiry, and thought someone might need this further. David asked us to meet the briding guide, Natalia before the trip commenced, and we arrived at the Lodge. We feel and know the lodge cares about every detail during our stay and the birding trip. Although we don't know Spanish, the team communicates well in English. The room is very well decorated and equipped. The food never upset you, from stay-in breakfast to take-way breakfast and lunch to teatime and dinner. We can stay in the dining area and the lodge the whole day just watching birds and enjoying the landscape and skyline. We would like to express our deep appreciation to the team: David (the owner), Marco (the Manager), Angel, Josselyn, the Chef Team, Albreto (our driver), and Natalia (the birding guide). If anyone asked me on the trip to Mindo, Ecuador, whether I would relax or go birding, I would highly recommend the Las Terrazas de Dana Boutique Lodge Spa without hesitation.
@L5699DXpeterw
Extremely welcoming and obliging. Went the extra mile to provide lovely vegan food. David was a fantastic guide/driver - nothing was too much trouble. Trip to the bird hide was particularly memorable as was his skill in finding toucans and other birds for us to see. Room 8 had an amazing view to wake up to, or to sit out on the balcony and watch & listen. Loved the hotel dogs Dana and Kira.
@amanda_low26
We stayed here 3 nights with our 9 and 11 year old daughters. I think the best part for them were the greeting crew of Dana and Kita, the 2 resident dogs. After every outing my girls would tear out of the car looking for them. They also enjoyed the beautiful pool every chance they got. The service we received was excellent, we couldn’t ask for more attentive service. While we were there it was mine and my daughter’s birthday and they made sure to sing happy birthday and surprise us with cake and balloons! The food was delicious, I still dream of their Tigrillo. The excursions were fantastic, we enjoyed every one of them. Marco will make every effort to ensure you get to do whatever you want - we asked last minute for a birding tour and he was able to make it happen. It is such a beautiful place and we would love to return some day!
@Herbert02
Incredible place. We came here after a Galapagos tour and were immediately made welcome by Marco and his fantastic team. Beautiful location, super peaceful, unbelievable numbers of birds fluttering around. The place is perfect. Food was wonderful. Marco was able to recommend and organise every adventure. We were booked for 3 nights and ended up extending our stay. Really a special place. Highly recpmmended
@wayneb652
Hacienda Zuleta exceeded expectations in all regards; a traditional property, historical story, activities and exceptional food and hospitality. Whether hiking the good range of local trails, with or without a local guide, visiting the Condor sanctuary or horse riding, an embroidery lesson or the welcoming spa, there was something for all tastes. We are total novices on the later, and certainly not up to mountain biking, but enjoyed the 90 m ride to a wonderful waterfall. As an habitual early riser, it was great to have the fire lit in the lounge and coffee brewed for 5.30am especially - typical of the personal service offered throughout with a host for each guest to plan your stay. We’ve enjoyed as part of a week’s itinary covering the cloud forest, Andean mountains and Quito pre visiting the Galapagos and highly recommend.
@L6702THseanb
We really enjoyed our stay at this historic villa high in the Andes. The rooms and entire hotel have so much detail and history, while also being incredibly welcoming thanks to beautiful fireplaces keeping the whole building warm and cozy. The nightly cheese tastings were delicious and allowed us to meet with some other guests and with one of the owners who was fascinating to speak to about his family's history here. The horseback riding and hiking among the beautiful mountain backdrop was a great way to spend each day, and they have lots of activities that you can sign up for to stay busy. The highlight of the stay was the comfortable accommodations and we felt very peaceful and rested staying here. Staff were more than welcoming and helped personalize the whole experience. Would highly recommend!
@gildadeferrer
I’ve rarely felt so pampered by hotel staff anywhere in the world. Your “host” assigned to you upon arrival will take care of everything you should need or want. It is also a really beautiful place with stunning views, beautiful rooms and great food. We went with our grand kids and they had the time of their lives, milking cows, visiting the cheese factory, roasting marshmallows, etc. Zuleta is very close to the city (Quito is less than 2 hours away), but you will feel very far away and in a different period of time. I suppose that’s what 2,000 hectares will do for you. I can’t wait to go back!
@FrameTheWild
A relaxing few nights at the end of our trip to the Galapagos, the hacienda is in the Otovala region of Ecuador. Beautiful lush setting, with wild orchids all over the grounds. The hacienda is small and has an air of peacefulness, tranquility and it is like you are staying with friends in their home (albeit a big, ex-presidential home!). The staff were so attentive and their only remit was to ensure that everyone had the best time ever! Lots of activities on offer, from wandering up to the condor rescue centre; horse riding to the waterfalls; tour of the grounds and house; visit the local village or just lounge around doing nothing and enjoying the setting. We did all of the above!! Lots of walks around the grounds, and maps available to give you directions (and wellies). Room was amazing. We had our own log burner that was set each night before dinner; hot water bottles provided for the bed; luxurious bedlinens; beautifully appointed bathroom (bath and over bath shower) with toiletries provided. Separate spa facility with pool and could be booked in advance if you want it to yourself. It was such a pleasurable place to stay and so memorable. We would highly recommend the hacienda. We loved it. Food was amazing and plentiful. Home made cheeses with every meal, and a great local community programme being carried out to ensure that the local community benefits from the activities of the ranch. Eco tourism at its best. Loved it. (Altitude can have an effect, although no mossies - bonus!)
@527carinag
We loved every minute of our stay at the beautiful Hacienda Zuleta. The warm staff, the excellent home made food, the comfort of the entire place were just exceptional. We had our very own little living room, in which we were welcomed every evening with a warm fire and a delicious pre-dinner cheese selection, all produced on the Hacienda. The visit of the Condor Centre was very interesting, the information shared by Yann was very interesting. We went biking, horse riding and did a tour of the working hacienda with its cheese factory.
@TBMH
Hacienda Pinsaqui is a hidden gem of a place to stay in Otavalo. We were there near the beginning of December and couldn’t have had a better experience. Our room was quiet with a view of grazing horses and scenery. King bed, nice bathroom and they provided bed warmers when we returned from dinner. Very elegant but cozy dining room with a view of their beautiful gardens. The staff was very attentive and served up yummy meals. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. 350 years old but of course, updated. Highly recommend staying here for a taste of colonial Ecuador.
@traveltalesofales
Established in 1790, this charming Hacienda offers a unique blend of history and comfort. The beautifully restored property exudes rustic charm, with antique furnishings and expansive gardens that transport guests to a bygone era. This historic hotel located at the base of Imbabura Volcano was originally a colonial textile enterprise, it has hosted notable figures, including General Simón Bolívar The attentive staff enhances the experience, ensuring a memorable stay. LOCATION: Conveniently situated just outside Otavalo, Hacienda Pinsaqui serves as an excellent base for exploring local attractions like the Otavalo Market and Imbabura Volcano. Its proximity to the Pan-American Highway makes it easily accessible, though some road noise can be present. DINE + DRINK:The on-site restaurant offers a delightful array of Ecuadorian and international dishes, emphasizing organic, local, and seasonal ingredients. Meals are served in a dining room adorned with lovely chandeliers and leather-backed chairs, overlooking a wonderful garden. The Bar that is located in a former Stables is a magical place to unwind in the evening wth your favorite drinks. This was one of the top highlights of our stay! ROOM: We stayed in Room 15, so this review is based on that; SIZE: Spacious enough for 2 adults and simple baggage; VIEW: Lovely views of the greenery from the balcony above; AIR-CON: The room comes with a lovely old world FIREPLACE that helped in setting the perfect room temperature; BED: Comfortable bed that played the expected part of putting us to sleep; BATHROOM:Good sized bathroom with a Stand-in shower; TOILETRIES: Good quality toiletries FACILITIES: No Gym or pool on site. But the hacienda boasts extensive grounds with walking paths, a chapel, and a reading library. Activities such as horseback riding, mountain biking, and hiking are available for guests seeking adventure. SERVICE: Friendly staff that cared for all our needs with a smile and made us feel pampered and well taken care of. HOW WIRED YOU WILL BE: Free Wi-Fi that works well all over the property, and the speed is good! No Television in the room
@JohnM7369
This is a beautiful hacienda with character and comfort. The food was delicious and the staff were lovely to us. Our room was perfect. It is wonderful to stay in a place with so much history and have the experience of staying in Otavalo region.
@AnneAndrews
This is a quirky old hotel that is full of charm and history! Each of the rooms are completely different and lovely in their own way. The grounds are very pretty to either just sit down and look at or walk around. They have a bar in the oldest part of the building which is charming. We also enjoyed a delicious dinner and breakfast This is a great option when visiting Otavalo.
@2donkeys
This place is very interesting. We had never been to a hacienda before. The hosts were excellent and had a informative meet and greet in the old tack room. They gave a history of the hacienda and had local entertainment for all the guest to enjoy. Our room was huge. Largest one we have every stayed in. Very comfortable and we were able to have a nice fire during the evening. However, it was in a large sitting room off the bedroom and the small space heater was not sufficient to warm the sleeping area. It being November, it was a little chilly during the evening if you had to get out from the warm bed. Very nice dinner in their restaurant..
@traveltalesofales
Hacienda Cusin, a historic estate founded in 1602 and converted into a country inn in 1990, offers a unique blend of colonial charm and natural beauty. The meticulously maintained gardens and antique-adorned interiors create an enchanting atmosphere that transports guests to a bygone era. However, some aspects of the property show signs of aging, and the dining experience could benefit from a more diverse menu. I would have loved to give 5 star rating to this property, if not for the lack of recreational facilities LOCATION:Nestled near Otavalo, Ecuador, Hacienda Cusin provides easy access to the famous Otavalo markets, majestic volcanoes, serene lakes, and rich indigenous culture. The surrounding landscape offers ample opportunities for exploration and immersion in local traditions. DINE + DRINK: The on-site restaurant serves a variety of dishes, including international options like chicken nuggets and sandwiches. While the food is satisfactory, the menu is a bit limited and lacks enough choices of traditional Ecuadorian cuisine, which could enhance the dining experience. ROOM: We stayed in one of the rooms across the restaurant & bar , so this review is based on that; SIZE: Spacious enough for 2 adults and simple baggage; VIEW: ; AIR-CON: Perfectly functioning cooler that helped in setting the perfect room temperature; BED: Comfortable bed that played the expected part of putting us to sleep; BATHROOM:Good sized bathroom with a Stand-in shower; TOILETRIES:Good quality toiletries FACILITIES: No Gym or pool on site. However, the hacienda boasts beautiful gardens, a vegetable garden, and various nooks and crannies to explore, providing a tranquil retreat for guests. The Horse Stables is a must visit during your stay. SERVICE: Friendly staff that cared for all our needs with a smile and made us feel pampered and well taken care of. Special Shout-out to HECTOR and ROMEIRO from the restaurant HOW WIRED YOU WILL BE: Free Wi-Fi that works well all over the property, and the speed is good! No Television in the room
@christopherkX6656WS
Where do I start? The grounds are so beautiful with so many nooks and crannies to explore and enjoy. Including in the grounds is the vegetable garden, which looks and tastes (breakfast and dinners) scrumptious. Speaking of food, the meals were very good! We definitely looked forward to the three-course dinners. Let's speak after dinner now! The turndown service makes your room feel so comfortable with the water water bottle under your sheets and a fire roaring. The coziness of the fire helps you drift off to a nice sleep after a hard day hiking calderas in the surrounding area or shopping the Otavalo market. During the day, after an adventure, we'd sit in a library or on a porch reading or playing cards. We also tried our hand at table tennis but skipped out on playing pool. Please also go explore the Monastery and find the llamas. Overall, we absolutely loved our three nights at Hacienda Cusin and look forward to coming back on our next trip to Ecuador.
@TucsonBorn
Our visit to Hacienda Cuisin felt like a dream from the moment we arrived! We have never known such hospitality and luxury! From the travel planning assistance from Daniela and Alex, the warm welcome from the front desk (Ramiro, Alexandra and Melissa), the professional and hospitable restaurant service from Javier, Enrique and Andrea and the horseback ride and other help from Juvaldo, we felt like we were treated like royalty here. With breathtaking beauty around every corner, both indoors and in the gardens, it truly felt like something out of a fairy tale. The food in the restaurant was exceptional and they did an excellent job offering options for my gluten allergy. It was so nice to come back to our room every evening to find a fire in the fireplace and a hot water bottle in our beds. The evenings were a bit chilly, so I do recommend a room with a fireplace. We stayed two nights in room 16 and didn’t want to leave this magical place! ¡Gracias a todos!
@TuristasAlegres
My wife and I recently returned from a long stay at Hacienda Cusín, in San Pablo del Lago, Ecuador, a place that we have visited many times since we “discovered” it almost three decades ago. We have always considered it to be one of the most uniquely beautiful (almost magical) places in Latin America. Situated high in the Ecuadorian Andes, at an elevation of almost 9000 feet, a few miles north of the equator, the Hacienda enjoys extraordinary weather year-round, with nights in the 50’s and days in the 70’s, and just enough rain to keep the gorgeous (if somewhat overgrown) landscaping green and lush. The Hacienda itself strikes the perfect balance between authentic Spanish-colonial architecture (some of which formed part of the original 17th-century homestead) and the modern amenities that every weary traveler hopes to find. No two rooms are alike, and each is replete with locally sourced antiques, whimsical features, and many little surprises. Those of you who are already familiar with the Hacienda will probably say, “Yes, yes, everything you have written is true, but the food leaves something to be desired!” Well, Señor Macías, the new owner (and one of the most congenial hosts you will ever hope to meet), thought so, too, and he has more-than-corrected that shortcoming! The kitchen staff includes three new and very talented young chefs, who continuously hone their culinary skills, working with well-known visiting chefs to master the finer points of their craft. In addition, the bread, which was always disappointing (one of our “pet peeves”), has now become one of the highlights, with a sumptuous, warm, baked-on-site assortment offered with every meal. Of course, you are right—I am gushing—so I will say no more. I can only hope that you will have the opportunity to experience Hacienda Cusín for yourselves.
@Sue2807C
Staying at this charmingly restored hacienda for 3 nights was part of a specially curated tour of Ecuador and it surpassed all expectations. We absolutely loved the manner in which this hacienda has been lovingly presented in the way the rooms are decorated with vintage pieces of sculpture, brassware and paintings and this trend was evident throughout the hacienda. The staff were truly a wonderful team of Ecuadorians who couldn’t do enough for its guests. We met Julio who was always smiling whenever we came across him and he would start the fire going in our room each evening which made it a cosy return to after dinner. The front desk staff were exemplary in the level of service they provided. When we needed medical assistance, Melissa efficiently and promptly rang their local doctor and arranged for him to come to the hacienda the following morning. In the interim, she organised for a staff member to attend a local pharmacy to obtain hydration supplies. Daniela at the front desk happily assisted us in making an international call when the need suddenly arose. Dinner at the restaurant was a gastronomic delight as the set menu was changed daily, with the meals being of a high standard and ably served by Enrique.
@J2774IPrafaels
Amazing place to relax and enjoy as a couple, this Spa-Resort exceeded our expectations first class rooms and spa, all the staff is very kind, attentive and helpful. The food was delicious, with healthy and tasty options. I totally recommend this place for anyone looking for a rejuvenating and restorative retreat. I will come back soon.
@Mayflower02
My husband and I recently tried a massage service that was overall quite pleasant, but unfortunately not as effective as I had hoped. The ambiance was soothing—soft lighting, calming music, and a peaceful atmosphere that immediately put me at ease. The therapist was friendly and professional, taking the time to ask about any specific areas of tension or discomfort. The massage itself was relaxing, and the pressure was just right for a stress-relieving experience. However, despite the enjoyable nature of the session, I didn’t feel much relief from the muscular tightness I had been hoping to address. The techniques seemed to be more surface-level, focusing more on general relaxation rather than targeting deep tissue. While it was a nice way to unwind and certainly helped with mild stress, I didn’t feel the lasting benefits I’ve come to expect from therapeutic massages. It was a good experience for relaxation, but if you’re looking for more intense muscle relief or a solution to chronic pain, this might not be the best fit. Still, for a peaceful, low-pressure experience, it’s definitely worth considering.
@680deliaa
I had an incredible experience at Samari Spa Resort in Baños, Ecuador. Traveling all the way from California to visit family, I couldn’t have chosen a better place to stay. The resort’s amenities were top-notch, providing everything we needed for a comfortable and memorable stay. The customer service was exceptional, with staff going above and beyond to ensure we felt welcomed and cared for. The Sunday brunch was a highlight, offering a delicious variety that catered to everyone in our family. We’re already looking forward to our next stay. Thank you to the staff who went out of their way to make our stay memorable!
@T8231GImichellen
Five stars! Samari Resort exceeded all our expectations for a weekend getaway. We visited for the Sunday brunch and were thrilled by the fresh, delicious traditional dishes and outstanding customer service. The attention to detail from the staff, along with the warm atmosphere, made our stay truly special. I stayed the night and can’t wait to return with my family. Every aspect of the experience from the food to the hospitality was exceptional. Highly recommended!
@Adventure50535200050
Amazing, it was our third year in a row and we are super happy. 100% excellent, people Who work there are happy and they have many reasons to be. We spent 3 days there, and everything ran smoothly and easily. Luna crew was very friendly and helpful.
@hausi48
An unusual, out of the way hotel perched high above the town of Baños de Agua Santa. Our room was spacious and overlooking their vegetable garden, which was given meticulous care by a small army of gardeners. It seems most guests (also day guests) come for the spa and pool right out on a cliff with a spectacular night time view of the town below. We had half board which doesn't offer much choice, but was good all the same. The service was also acceptable, if not remarkable. In the end, though, nothing to really complaint about.
@Weezi2013
Lovely relaxing spot with incredible views of the mountains and Banos below. Staff were helpful and courteous. We bought a package that included three hours of pool time, a treatment each, and lunch (which included an appetizer, a main and dessert). The lunch was outstanding and the grounds are very beautiful. There is a small outdoor cafe serving food and drinks - and you can choose to have your lunch either here or in the main resort dining room. Make sure to bring sunblock and don't be fooled by dark clouds and rain - you can still get burned! We left this tranquil place feeling so much more relaxed than when we arrived.
@desireebM3754QG
We did not stay at the hotel, we did visit the spa and ate at the restaurant both were wonderful. The spa offers an amazing view with two hot tubs and a pool a beautiful bar with pool side service. We enjoyed refreshing beverages and cocktails. There is service of food as well at the pool if you should decide. We were provided with robes towels and lockers. Clean and attentive. The restraint was amazing! We had dinner Charlie was our server. He was attentive friendly and the food was amazing!
@wbsCA
Stay. Here. Location. Style. Sparkling Clean. Big rooms with 10’ ceilings. Modern quartz bathroom. Great shower. Lovely staff. Elevator! Rooftop City view Restaurant & Bar with great music, vibe, wonderful food & drinks. We hung out there every night during our 3-night stay. Checked out other hotels & this is the spot! Enjoy!!
@mfanning26
The hotel common areas are absolutely beautiful! The staff is amazingly professional, respectful and considerate! Breakfast was wonderful each morning. They give so much food and it is so fresh and delicious! I had dinner in the rooftop bar which is charming! The food was wonderful and the drinks top notch!
@soccerboy328
Gorgeous hotel in beautiful location close to cathedral. Due to the country’s energy situation, we were unable to stay and fully enjoy what they have to offer. Manager Luis Felipe, Alejandro, and the wait staff of the wonderful rooftop restaurant showed us gracious hospitality by allowing us to enjoy wine and appetizers at sunset. Truly magical setting with wonderful people. Will come back to experience it fully. Highly recommend. It is stunning, run by the nicest people, great representatives of the city of Cuenca, my father’s birthplace .My family, first time visitors, were impressed. Thank you, Cesar Arias
@BrunswickSmitty
The hotel is beautiful and the staff is friendly and well trained. Normally when I see the words boutique and hotel together, I cringe- but this was very nice. The view from the roof bar is grand and you need to watch moon rise one evening. Some maintenance notes: The Direct TV box is mounted behind the wall mounted TV and will not work with the control. Beauty over function? The rooms do not have air conditioning even though the control indicates they do. Don't even try. There were other issues but nothing big. We would gladly stay here again.
@rafos
Visiting from Florida USA. We have stayed in many upscale hotels and ITZA is truly special. From the moment you arrive( Front Desk Cecilia and Christian make you feel that you have arrived. The rooms are beautiful; very high ceilings, spectacular bathroom, balcony with well-insulated for sound. The breakfast at Santo Placer is a true delicacy. Great service by Adriana and Valeria. Awesome coffee as well. Upstairs at ZaZa Rooftop we enjoyed a spectacular 360 degrees view as well as great cocktails by Ronald and service by Salome. This hotel in Miami Beach would be $1K per night. The location is close to everything but a block back of the congestion. What a classy experience at ITZA.
@715madalinal
I was here with a group of friends in this amazing location, in old town Cuenca, the restaurant is placed in a beautiful garden with a lot of flowers. The service was impecable, the staff was helpful. The chef suprised us with exquisite flovours combining local food with french cuisine. The peak of the experience was the serving of the desert combined with a vist from chef Hector Rojas.We will definately return to try all the dishes. Gracias!
@zorkac
The staff was super friendly and professional. Everyone always smiling at you 🙂. The restaurant has an amazing view and the food is delicious. The chocolate mousse was amongst the best I’ve ever tried. We also ordered the papardelle with Parmesan sauce and it was great. We stayed at one of the suites in front of the garden (305). It was pretty quiet and spacious. The shower had very good water pressure and hot water always. My husband and I recommend this hotel 100%.
@simongG5915GF
Traditional building in the historic district of Cuenca. Well located to feel the vibe of the city and his inhabitants. Building is just amazing. I would suggest a room on the second floor. Since it is an house, the wood floors cracks a lot. We had a traditional suite. It was spacious and beautiful. This hotel is named the house of angels since there is wood angels sculptures everywhere. The personal was outstanding. We spent 5 nights there and since it is a small hotel every members of the hotel personal knew us and weee very kind We highly recommand this place. Just in front there is the most excellent Equadorian chocolatery
@963caryw
This is how all hotels should be run. I have travel extensively over four continents. The Mansión Alcázar located in the center of the beautiful city of Cuenca checks all the boxes. Friendly staff that anticipates guests needs. This is true of the manager, front desk, housekeeper and waiters. A special appreciation for the gardener. Best private garden I have ever enjoyed. Beautiful and tranquil areas for guests to rest and relax in. Peaceful during the day and very quiet at night. Healthy breakfasts and excellent lunch and dinners - thank you chef. Walking distance to all you would want to see in this clean, beautiful, and safe city. Weather here is the best and most comfortable I can recall. Thanks to everyone at the Mansión Alcázar.
@750dannah
My cousin and I stayed there for 3 days and we both loved it! The hotel was extraordinary and beautiful and quaint. The staff were friendly, warm and helpful. We loved the way the hotel was decorated and the vibe. We have told our family and friends and will definitely be going back!! Thank you to the staff for making us feel like so welcomed!
@thomaskJ10XA
This place is really special. It’s visually a stunning hotel that is kept immaculately. Steeped in history, culture, and art but with a slight modern elegance. When my wife and I got to the hotel, we were greeted with a warm smile by Sebastian (the general manager), an absolutely charming dude who turned out to have a vast array of knowledge from sports teams (even North American) to history, and Paula who had a beautiful welcoming charming smile and warm aura (as well as immense knowledge not only of the historical building, but of the city and surrounding areas). They welcomed us with face towels to freshen us up from the travel, and also a wonderful cold herbal drink. Together and right away, they just made us feel like we were at the right place at the right time. As we decided to walk up the stairs to our room (they also have an elevator) which featured the beautiful original marble railing, we noticed the stunning and warm decor. As Paula and Sebastian explained, a lot of the hotel was renovated, but a lot of it was also original. Honestly a perfect mix of modern that highlighted the classic, with the beautiful organic feel of art from Cuenca’s vibrant history and culture. That feel continued to our room which was stocked with some delicious snacks/coffee, and had a spectacular view. And that bed…dios mio…My first night there I actually slept for 12 hours straight. One of the best sleeps I ever had. Perhaps the elevation had something to do with it (Cuenca is more than 2500m above sea level), but honestly I think I just felt really good being there. For the restaurant at the top, read my other review. It showcases some beautiful views of the mountains, especially at sunset, and at night the famous blue cupolas from the cathedral are lit up for your admiration. And the food…delicious plates of art. Some modern twists to some classic Ecuadorian dishes, with some regional dishes as well. Finally, and I can’t stress this enough…I don’t think our stay would have been nearly as enjoyable if it wasn’t for the people. They are really what makes that place truly special. They made us really feel welcome and special, as well as made the experience at the hotel the best stay we’ve ever had, anywhere. Thank you to everyone at Hotel Cruz Del Vado. We hope to come back in the future.
@Exploration501882
My wife and I had an amazing experience. For our anniversary, we were received with a bottle of champagne, chocolate-covered strawberries, and a huge bouquet of beautiful flowers. The service was exceptional and very professional. The food was exquisite and the breakfast buffet was delicious and varied. We had the best ever hotel stay. We loved our suite which had a balcony with an amazing view. Everything was exceptional!
@holidaychicLondon
We walked into the lovely reception area and were greeted warmly with cold towels and a welcome drink and an upgrade to a lovely suite located looking out to the river. Our suite was lovely, spacious with a cute shared balcony. (Which does mean other people can see into your room) A few improvements required though I thought I’d use the jacuzzi bath but the water was luke warm without adding any cold … the towels - one each are so so tiny as were the bath robes… I’m 5 ft 3 size U.K. 12 and I could hardly get the robe on - my husband could get one arm in and as for the towel couldn’t even get it around his waist….. We had booked in for dinner from the U.K. and upon checking in the chef came to the front desk to tell us they were having a bbq that night… we attended the restaurant and said we’d have a drink first - I ordered an Aperol spritz and I have zero idea what they gave me.. when I queried it they actually knew they’d given me something else and apologised.. they then delivered a small plate with tiny bits of chicken and beef strips and I mean tiny, 4 small pieces of sausage and 4 small pieces of blood sausage - we were perplexed - zero side dishes so we thought they must come soon but no - we asked for some more as they said it was all you could eat - they delivered the exact same again tiny meat strips and again no sides and there was no one about to ask so we ate the little plate of meat then I found someone and he asked if all was ok and I said do they not include sides and he said I can go and get you something. … I said don’t worry now it’s too late ….but eating a small plate of meat with nothing else is not a proper dinner. We tried to order a bottle of Rioja but he cane over with the bottle and said we could only order a glass as it was the last one… Breakfast next morning was a buffet and as we sat down the waiter said we’ve set it up for brunch… there were a few Ecuador lunch dishes, a plate of bread and a plate of salad and a plate of fruit … it just felt like they didn’t know how to run the dining side of things. The location is good and the staff are very nice and try super hard to be accommodating. The hotel is decorated beautifully, the bed was comfortable - such a pity re the dining and silly things like tiny towels and robes and lack of hot water because it could be a very nice hotel. Upon checking out they didn’t charge us for the dinner and drinks which was appreciated as it was a bit of a disaster.
@Gacho
Cruz del Vado was recommended by the people that organized our trip and cited as one of the top hotels in the city. But, the stay experience fell very short of our expectations. I will share a few of the detractors that should guide you with your decision making. Firstly, I was assigned a room that was the smallest I’ve stayed in, perhaps in my almost 5 decades of travel. I would say that it was not much more than 100 square feet, including the closet and bathroom. To be fair, I saw some other rooms and they were larger. But this is not something that you expect in a supposedly high-end property. The second important thing to consider is that with the exception of a couple of suites in the front of the building, all the rooms face inwards, to a modern and closed vestibule that is very far from being a charming courtyard. The door has a blasted glass panel and there is a small window at its side. This window does open, but I was not able to cool my room; it was always stuffy and unventilated. Again, in such a beautiful city with such amazing buildings, this is a big negative. For those of you who will need a decent internet signal, I barely had enough to connect and I had to make calls from the corridor. Showers are important to me. For all 4 days that I was at the hotel, I had access to very little pressure, and the temperature was warm, but definitely not hot. The final negative that I will mention is with regard to location. Cruz del Vado was cited as having a great location, but actually, it’s on the busiest entrance to the city center, from the south. This street has a lot of traffic. It is actually difficult to cross it and it always reeks of diesel and oil, from all of the vehicles. Consider that anything within 6 or 7 blocks of the central plaza offers a great location, so if you look around, you will find all sorts of alternatives.
@jjo
Excellent location, just off the historic center of town. It's above a busy street, but it quieted down at night and we had no problems sleeping. The room was very modern, and our room (an upgraded one) had a balcony with a wonderful view of the city. The staff could not have been friendlier. We had several chats with folks at the front desk. Breakfast is on the top floor with nice views of the city. The homemade breads with breakfast were excellent, as well.
@taurich611
This Hotel is such a wonderful place. Our experience was so amazing. The food and beverage was excellent and service is top notch. I am a Hotel professional and promise you, this is a hotel that will surprise and delight you. The breakfast was simple and amazing, with service that is on point. The grounds are beautiful and well kept, with plenty of places to sit outdoors and relax. Excellent job by everyone.
@psn0rd0
Wanting to stay at a hacienda during our mutli-day tour through Ecuador, we chose the Hacienda Abraspungo. I had a different vision in my mind about what a hacienda would look like - somehow, I pictured a ranch-type environment, rather than a sprawling complex in the middle of town - but the hacienda was very nice. It was very comfortable, with a huge room and large bathroom, and nice grounds to walk around (although the grounds have a bit more concrete than I would have expected). The (included) breakfast was tasty and varied, and dinner at the restaurant was also quite good. The ubiquitous barking dogs were less vocal here than at other places we stayed, but my husband took a walk around the grounds at night and motivated several dogs to voice their disapproval. All in all, our stay at the hacienda was lovely and I would recommend it to others.
@alfrescodave
An attractive hotel with spacious well decorated rooms. Unfortunately our visit was let down by poor customer interaction in the restaurant. We went for dinner and were presented with a QR menu code for choosing our meal. My mobile was being charged in our room so I explained to the restaurant manager / waiter that we were unable to access the menu. My comment was met with a scowl and he stomped off to return with a tablet which he banged down onto our table. He then went to speak to a young female member of staff and obviously instructed her (using gestures and arm waving) to attend to us. She was most polite and helpful and took our orders. The food itself was extremely delicious. I am a great believer in technology but assumptions that everyone has access to or is an experienced user of technology can lead to difficult situations
@854mandym
We arrived quite late for our one night stay here, after a long day seeing Quilotoa and Chimborazo. Such a shame to have such a short stay as rooms were huge, beds very comfy … and we missed the views as it was dark! We had opted for inclusive meal and very happy to have a caesar salad and pasta choices after the huge meat and potato/corn/rice meals of the previous few days! Buffet breakfast was good with lots of choice. Wifi good ( our sons neeeed good wifi!). Thankfully a clear bright morning after a good sleep meant we could see the view and explore the gardens before our next adventure.
@varney
We weren't sure of this hotel when our travel agent booked it, however we were wrong, there's chart to it, once you arrive and step out of the car it's an oasis of tranquility, we were warmly meet on arrival give our room key and escorted to our room which you need on arrival , the hotel is spread our and has pleasant grounds, great wedding location. The room was very spacious large double bed dining table, settee and coffee table , the bathroom was huge ! after all our travelling it was nice to chill out in the hotel bar and enjoy a Pilsner, dinner was very pleasant and relaxed. Breakfast was very good reasonable choice and eggs cooked to order
@marialA7017AG
This hotel is truly a unique place. The accommodations are beautiful and luxurious but what makes it stand out are all the collections gathered by the former owner. He had great taste, many interests and the place is truly a feast for the eyes. It seems there is a collection of everything you can think of: Catholic art, art from India, musical instruments, stoves, cash registers, etc. It's fascinating to just walk around the hotel and explore. The grounds are beautiful too and there are bunnies on the property! You also get a spectacular view of Chimborazo from the hotel. Additionally, the hotel includes a fantastic spa. Staff are very friendly. Rooms are spacious and beautifully furnished. A great place for a restful retreat or to celebrate a special occasion.
@hausi48
This hosteria cum museum was one of the real surprises on our two week road trip around Ecuador. It doesn't get more authentic colonial than this. Spacious rooms with complete amenities and bathroom. Very good service and fine dining in the elegant restaurant. Hearty buffet breakfast in the spacious room adjacent. We had a two night stay and were delighted with the whole atmosphere and service. The hosteria is also a museum, so there is a complimentary tour of the museum which is well worth taking. The historic collection of Ecuadorian art and artefacts by the owner is quite amazing.
@ninabL9705YW
A spectacular place, where we would have loved to stay longer. Online photos don’t really showcase how great it is. Super gourmet local food. The spa and its treatments were mind blowing! Everyone was really nice. Get a tour of the place first thing. It is a true museum, filled with antiques and lots of history. Even Simon Bolivar was there. It is even pet-friendly. A gem to be discovered up in the Andes.
@Venture715113
A very beautiful place, I loved every detail, the antiques and the stories, everyone's wonderful attention, especially Katy Freire who was a wonderful guide and host, the SPA was so relaxing and clean, thank you for giving us an unforgettable experience
@andresf1973
Our family had a great experience at La Andaluza! We got an upgrade to a suite, enjoyed amazing local food, a unique art & historic tour, and received an incredible hospitality from all the staff. Special thanks to Oscar for his superb attention to all our needs and his profesional management of this spectacular hotel. We look forward to visit the spa on our next trip to La Andaluza.
@C582XEjeremys
My wife, three teenage children, and I had an amazing adventure with Marco and his crew! We loved the lodge, the food (my wife and daughter are vegetarian, which they accommodated nicely), and especially the staff. The location is outstanding. Our climbing guides were excellent and we lucked out with weather; all 5 of us were able to summit Mount Chimborazo (our trip was in July). This has been our favorite family adventure to date!
@NorbyBiotropica
Service, food, accommodation and nature experiences are superb at Chimborazo Lodge and the reserve area. Observing the natural landscape, hiking, exploring, and taking photographs of the species of flora and fauna that inhabit the high Andes in this habitat is something extraordinary!
@eliassix
What an incredible location! We stayed in many places during our roundtrip through Ecuador, but the view of the Chimborazo volcano upon waking up was unbeatable. The lodge itself is (surprisingly) easy to reach and from the moment you arrive you find yourself in a remote world with stunning views. Unfortunately, we could only stay one night during our passage south, but we could easily have booked an extra day to enjoy the peace and quiet and the surroundings. There are several hikes you can do on site and the herd of alpacas are a constant source of entertainment both during daytime as during the night when they sleep by your window. Breakfast and dinner were delicious and of a higher standard than we were used to during our trip. All in all, this is a perfect location for nature lovers to unwind and pamper yourself after (or during) an exhausting trip. Highly recommended!
@DrillerGodzilla
Stayed as part of a climbing trip at Chimborazo. The hotel was incredible filled with memorabilia of climbers and famous mountaineers. The views of the mountain are incredible and the food is just as good. This was one of our favourite stays in Ecuador, the staff were so friendly and welcoming.
@BackRoadBruce
When the clouds move aside, there is a stunning view of the Chimborazo Volcano. I had a room in the newer lodging and it was very nice. It was cold during my stay and the electric space heaters had trouble keeping up, but there were lots of alpaca blankets for the comfortable bed. Excellent hot shower. Great views and workspace in the room. Good wifi. Excellent restaurant with very unique décor. Great staff. I hope I get to stay here again.
@hausi48
This was the most unusual stop on our two week road trip around Ecuador. A kind of Ecuadorian "Agriturismo", staying on a functioning farm, complete with llama herd and tour of the buildings. The latter is very interesting indeed, as the farm buildings have been built on the foundation of Inca ruins. The rooms are spacious with big beds, equipped with hot water bottles to take away the chill of the evening and night. Otherwise there is a fire place which we put to good use. The bathroom is old fashioned with free-standing bath tub shower, but everything you need is there. We were the only guests and had the "misfortune" that the current power outages in Ecuador coincided with dinner. A romantic candle light dinner was the result. Excellent home cooked meal of local ingredients. Breakfast was equally good, served in a different part of the farm. A most agreeable overnight stay in a very unusual place near the Cotopaxi National Park.
@U5443NEryanp
One of the best experiences of our trip through Ecuador. The staff was incredible (we speak very little spanish) and accommodating. Food was amazing, we stayed in the house and it was perfect. Can’t recommend this Hacienda enough. Perfect location to explore Cotopaxi.
@paull885
A truly unique and amazing Hacienda. It is family owned and has been for over 100 years. A very special place with an Inca Temple and Spanish heritage. The Rooms are beautiful, the staff are very friendly and welcoming and it’s been a joy to visit. Activities include Llama feeding, Horse Riding, Volcano visits and much, much more. Many thanks to both Leonidas & Lavihve and all the Team.
@mikefre3
Stayed , regrettably, only one night on our tour of Ecuador. Hotel is perfectly located in the shadow of the Cotopaxi volcano affording some great views. The hotel is beautifully furnished and laid out . The room was large and well equipped with a lovely bathroom. Super fast Wi-Fi and an open fire lit by staff in the evening, 2 huge comfy beds. The owner , Juan Carlos , is very charismatic and endlessly helpful. Whilst there I was ill ( nothing to do with hotel, altitude sickness that was already gestating when I arrived) the manager himself no less came to the room with dry toast , water and advice significantly aiding my swift recovery. Breakfast is made to order and served at the table , it looked great and all who had it confirmed so . The staff all lined up to wave us off in the morning. Highly recommended.
@GeoW-06
It was a Sunday morning in the Andes. The gathering of family went for a 3 mile hike in the Andes at 11,500 ft. A sea level gringo, I took my time and brought up the rear. Glorious views tempered by a tad too thin oxygen. As we turned the corner for the end, what appeared before us was the wonderful hotel. With a broad vista view of 22 volcanoes, our efforts were rewarded by hot specialty drinks and sweets. What an amazing hotel with views that will take your breath away and oxygen levels that may do the same.
@nthorwir
He enjoyed a wonderful experience as a family of four, staying in this hotel for two nights. We ventured on a nearby hike for three hours, and also took a horseback riding tour for one hour. We really love the exceptional choice and food quality in the kitchen. And a highlight certainly was the best house with a hot tub, sauna and steam room.
@LindaH7071
Beautiful volcano views. The manager, Juan Carlos, was very friendly and helpful. A very bumpy drive for a few miles before arrival. Every room has a log fire which they lit for us.Downside was we were unable to get a coffee early in the morning. There are no facilities in the room.
@pattimH7436KJ
We enjoyed a wonderful couple of nights here - very comfortable hotel with lovely staff and great food and - the icing on the cake- sensational, ever changing views of the spectacular volcano Cotopaxi. A bit of a bumpy ride to get there, but definitely worth the effort!
@DIT72
We had booked a stay at the beautiful hacienda. Pablo had picked us up from the airport and also drove us to our next accommodation. The rides were very pleasant. The house furnishings and small details of the hacienda is very nice. The staff, especially Allegra, are very friendly and helpful. The food is very tasty. We can highly recommend a stay at the Hacienda.
@Getaway02361382073
Located on the outskirts of the Cotopaxi national park this hotel is in a beautiful location with incredible sunrises and an excellent view of Cotopaxi. The trip up the mountain takes quite a while, but on arrival it's just absolutely worth it. They offer horse-riding trips of different lengths with their own horses, getting to enjoy nature from horseback. The dinner menu is small but regional and very tasty. Breakfast was also good with a selection of cereals, egg-dishes or bread. The rooms and facilities are quite luxurious, dispersed over different houses. As it was already fairly cold when we arrived, the only down-side was having to time restocking the wood stove in our room to keep us cozy throughout the night. Absolute recommendation for horse-back riding, hiking and enjoying the tranquility in the mountains.
@mauricioj770
Our adventure weekendly, finished there. The place is wonderfull and amazing. This is located in the protective Cotopaxi park, in volcanic eruption safe. We had all neccesary to experience a relax and adventure time
@379brennah
Such a lovely hotel; the energy, the food, the staff, the views, and the overall hotel were absolutely perfect. The rooms were always cleaned when we returned from the mountain. The food was so delicious. My favorites were the soups and desserts, and the breakfasts were also very good.
@UKclaire___12
Gorgeous hacienda, the building is beautiful as are the views. We stayed here for 2 nights and had a great time. We were also adopted by a lovely little black dog who walked 20 Kms with us around Cotopaxi National Park and waited overnight at the hacienda for us to come out walking again the next day. We were really sorry to leave both the hacienda and the dog!
@JohnM7369
This is a beautiful Hacienda near the Cotopaxi Nation Park. We loved staying here. The rooms were charming and beautiful. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There was a lovely view of farmland with horses, llamas and a short drive to the Andes and volcanoes. This was a wonderful adventure.
@devonlady45
We stayed here for two nights after our trip to Galapagos. It is a beautiful hacienda with staff who cannot do enough for you. Our flight from Galapagos was delayed and they very kindly agreed to wait for us to arrive which was a big relief. It is very rural and located on unmade roads which are bumpy. Food is good. Lovely rustic decor. It would have been useful to place in the room a sheet showing what activities are available and the cost of them as we only found out about things via TA reviews. There is a spa which you have to pay to use. Easy access to the National Park. Our room had a HUGE comfy bed with hot water bottles. A hairdryer was provided on request. There are lovely cosy sitting rooms to use with free tea and coffee. There are trails from the hotel and we did one of those which was very enjoyable. It is a shame that there has been a reduction in visitors to Ecuador generally. Go! It is a beautiful place and felt very safe. We had a guide who took us round the national park and we learnt a lot.
@Travelflie
We had a wonderful stay at this amazing hacienda. We were greeted by the most wonderful people. They served us the best empanadas we had on our whole trip in Ecuador (I still get water in my mouth just thinking about them) and a very good canelazo as a warm welcome. The rooms are spacious, clean, comfortable and cozy. The hacienda has a beautiful location, it serves great food and has a superb service. We wish we could have stayed longer than just one night, but that means we have another reason to come back.
@tsmorgan10
This place is wonderful. The setting is world class, the rooms are beautiful, the staff are fantastic and the food is delicious. We had a really interesting horse riding tour and a cookery course which were really well organized. The little touches are perfect such as the welcome drink/ snack, the real fire in the room and the hot water bottle in the bed. I could not recommend them more highly.
@veryhappytraveler29
The Amazon jungle was my favorite part of the trip. The staff at the Hakuna Matata is awesome, especially Alban Acosta who made us feel especially welcome. The food was great and we learned so much on our hikes from the very knowledgeable guides. I especially recommend the jungle massage and the horseback ride through the jungle. The whole experience was wonderful!
@digger
This was a wonderful rain forest experience once we were able to get to our accommodation. But, we were not aware before arrival that we would be walking across a hanging bridge and then riding in an old pick up truck to the reception area. Our bags were carried by hand separately. This lodging was arranged by our tour operator, Exoticca. Had we known in advance that our arrival would be this way, we probably would have left most of our luggage at our hotel in Quito. Our room was rustic, but adequate. Unfortunately, we had no running water on our last morning right before departure. The provided meals were excellent. The nature walks were interesting but treacherous on slippery, muddy paths. Mud boots provided but come prepared for an authentic experience!
@HBread1
What a brilliant place! The lodge had 3 windows, which were just a mesh insect screen (had shutters if you wanted to close them) but it was great sleeping with shutters open, listening to the animals of the forest and rain and smelling the fresh air. The place is so tranquil, food was good and plentiful, extra meat was brought to the table, enough for everyone to have two full portions. I had my 60th birthday here and couldn’t have wished for better place
@PRicoGirl
Located very, very far from anything. Even though we were in the Amazon Rainforest, aĺl 12 of us felt it could have been any hotel in a forest. Wood cabins, are very, very basic. Beds comfortable. Food was included, good. Excellent jungle massage. A hiking trail. Don't go alone. They provide rubber boots & umbrellas. When it rains there it pours. Jenny was our host. She is excellent.
@881mariak
OMG, I could stay there forever! Authentic lodge in the Amazon jungle with pool and river to go swimming in. Night and day walk in the rainforest nearby to discover wildlife, flora and fauna. Full board with a bar if required. Delicious food and lovely friendly staff. We also took the option of going on a traditional village tour which we thoroughly enjoyed
@836patb836
Napo Wildlife Centre has made our Amazon trip an amazing one. Andres and Mariano were extremely knowledgeable and ensured we appreciated the wildlife with respect towards the animals and the rainforest. They were both very patient with ensuring that our dreams were made true and we got the best experience ever. Also assisting us with getting fantastic pictures! The cabin was very comfortable and the food was delicious.
@THGang
Fabulous visit to a magical place. NAPO Wilderness Lodge is everthing we hoped it would be. The adventure started on the 2 hour motorized long boat ride to get to a tributary, on which we took another 2 hour canoe ride to the Lodge. Before we even got to the lodge, our community guide spotted an anaconda, two varieties of monekys, and many beautful birds. Highlights of our trip: early morning climb to the top of the observation tower to see many varieties of jungle birds; seeing a range of creatures - river otters, tarantulas, a cayman, and listening to the bird calls and wild sounds of howler monkeys. Even if you are not a bird afficionato, the wonders of the bird licks we visited will blow your mind. Both of our guides, Sebastian and William, were terrific. The food was excellent and the staff knocked themsleves out making New Year's Eve special. The entire staff was warm and helpful. NAPO is an indigenous community run and benefiting operation, which we were very pleased to support. Highly recommend to adventurous travelers!
@NickPann
What an outstanding and somewhat astonishing place this is. The adventure begins with a 2 hour trip up river to the reserve’s transfer base and then a 7km canoe trip through from the Napo river to the lake where the resort is located. We saw a variety of birds, monkeys and a family of giant river otters. The rooms at the resort were thatched ’lodges’ tastefully yet rustically decorated, with good facilities and spotlessly clean. The food was great whether eating at the lodge itself or any of the excursion venues. All the staff were brilliant and worked really hard to ensure everything that was planned went smoothly. It’s owned by the local community so everyone is a stakeholder and puts themselves out there to understand what their visitors expectations maybe - important because as an eco- tourist venue some things are necessarily limited but nothing that spoils the experience. Absolutely brilliant and well worth 5 stars even if we didn’t get to see an anaconda!!
@Adventure495821
We were blown away by our 6 day stay at Napo Wildlife Center Ecolodge. The indigenous-owned and run resort is in a remote location reachable only by boat or walking through the jungle. Viewing the parrot and parakeet licks, standing on the observation tower with views over the Amazon treetops, and visiting the local market and community were amazing experiences we won’t forget. We had wonderful guides (Mauricio and Melinton) who spotted birds and monkeys for us, jumped into Panacocha (Piranha Lagoon) with us, and taught us how to listen and walk silently. Their respect for nature and the wildlife came through in everything they did. They and our paddler, Edison, expertly guided us down streams that were way too low because of drought. We were spoiled by chefs like Jorge, who prepared a huge variety of buffets and the nightly desserts were a treat- could not eat just one. Edison, the bartender, offered us refreshing cool towels and drinks after each excursion and remembered all of our drink orders. Clarita, the lodge manager, was so kind and the staff kept the rooms and lodge impeccable. We were surrounded by the sounds of birds and howler monkeys, stunned by the sunrises and sunsets, and spoiled by the staff. The ecolodge is an impressive result of hard work by the local Kichwa community that surpassed our expectations. We hope to make a repeat visit.
@Y8548GGvictoriac

@lynng280
We cannot say enough about this amazing place! Carolina and Wilson were our guides and they shared so much of their knowledge with us! Every time we turned a corner there was something else they were ready to share! From day hikes to night walks to evening and daytime canoe trips we were amazed with the beauty of this place. We loved our suite and common spaces as well! Meals were excellent with so many options to choose from! Thank you Sacha Lodge for giving us this experience to remember!
@suluarcher
We have had a wonderful five days at Sacha Lodge. Nestled on the edge of a lake deep in the Amazon this lodge has you immersed in nature . Guided by skilful and knowledgable naturalist guides you are taken out by canoe and on foot to explore the locality . With man made viewing platforms and a suspension bridge - you can climb above the tree canopy to see the jungle at its finest. All the staff were amazing and did all they could to welcome you and make you comfortable . The food was wonderful too. For me the highlight was the family of river otters that routinely played around the lakeside restaurant. My top tip for visiting here - make sure you add in an extra day to really enjoy it . It’s a few hours by boat from Coca airport and you can be very busy hiking and canoeing . But for us , one of the highlights was having a quiet morning just sitting next to the lake in the restaurant , and watching all that nature could offer . From otters to snake birds to hoatzens , they all came to visit . Thank you sacha lodge for a wonderful holiday.
@tennisjed
It’s not easy to get to but that’s a part of the fun. The room was very nice and met our needs especially the air conditioning. The public spaces were appreciated so you could always get a cold drink or cup of coffee. The food was very good and the service top notch.
@P4485IQlp
The guides’ knowledge of the flora and fauna was outstanding. Questions from guests were answered with great detail and accuracy. The food was top-notch, plentiful and beautifully presented. The accommodations were comfortable and functional. Loved the hammock on the patio.
@kiwigirly
The best experience we could ever have wished for with our trip to the Amazon Rainforest. First the lodge itself is perfectly appointed and managed by Fausto and his right hand man Luis. They work tirelessly!! The public spaces are immaculate and the rooms of an incredible standard given the location - the showers were always hot!! The food is spectacularly good and the breakfast and lunch buffets offering incredible choice and variety. We loved the local dishes the most. Our guide Alex, was special, passionate about his homeland and incredibly knowledgable. His aim was to ensure we saw as much as we could and experience everything he could possibly show us in the 4 days (5 nights) that we were there. We felt extremely lucky to see as much as we did and were fortunate to be grouped with the best people … we had a truly wonderful fun time, full of laughter. Our days were filled with hiking through the jungle, canopy walks, canoe rides - day and night, boat trips, fishing for piranha, early breakfasts watching the sun rise and cocktails watching the sunset over the lake. All of this and the most interesting lessons in Biology provided by the ever enthusiastic, wonderful Alex.
@W3819KJterryc
My wife and I stayed at La Selva Lodge from 13 to 16 January 2025. Arriving and leaving by canoe was very special, the lake-side location is simply wonderful and the lodge is beautifully designed, spacious and comfortable. It's impossible to be too complimentary about the food, but above all our passionately enthusiastic, impressively knowledgeable guide Paul made every day an adventure, and this a stay we know we won't forget even as many other holidays fade into memory. It even eclipsed our visit to the Galapagos!
@shopw2025
Everything was very organized and the whole experience top notch. The lodge was beautiful and the food was a big highlight. Didn’t mind the early wake up calls to go on jungle adventures. We had the best guide, so knowledgeable. Was an incredible trip. Would go back again in a heartbeat!

What a wonderful place to spend the week between Xmas and New Years. The spacious room with a view over the lake was delightful. The meals were all so delicious with many choices and staff always helpful. More importantly, the walking and canoe trips into the Amazon was even better than we had expected. Our guides were so informative about the jungle surroundings and the variety of trips made every day special.
@583stevies
The sounds, the sights, the comforts, and the guides blew us all away! We were in constant awe of the natural surroundings while also feeling safe and looked after with the best of care. The organization of the journey to and from the lodge, the nature walks and canoe excursions, and meal planning were all executed with the upmost thought. The beds very comfortable and rooms spacious with the most beautiful sounds all around. Paul, our naturalist, was a total joy to witness in his element. He was as excited as our children (ages 9 and 11 years) when seeing mammals, birds, and more even though he’s seen them 1,000s of times before. I would recommend La Selva to anyone wanting to experience the Amazon Rainforest.
@alli785
After a 2 hour motorized canoe trip from el Coca, we were greeted by staff and hand paddled up a gentle river to the beautiful lake that the lodge is on. The jungle around the lake and buildings is teaming with life. Every day the squirrel monkeys treat us to their acrobatic traveling. Howler monkeys and weaver birds are our alarm clocks. The guides (Paul and Sixto, sorry if spelling is wrong!) are very knowledgeable and spot wildlife and show us where to look for it. Rubber boots, ponchos, and walking sticks are provided. The food and coffee are fantastic. The chefs accommodate dietary allergies and preferences (ie vegetarian) and offer wonderful meals. We are amazed at the comforts of our room. In the Amazon jungle we had a very comfortable K bed surrounded by mosquito netting and a cooling fan, with 6 speeds, above us. The lack of AC was not been a problem. There is no glass in the windows but they are well sealed with mosquito netting. We have not noticed many bugs either. The gentle sounds of the jungle lull us to sleep at night. We wore long sleeves and pants and wore Icaridin bug spray and never got a single mosquito bite. We could wear short sleeves and shorts within the lodge and never saw a mosquito. I don’t know if the jungle is this bug free normally, but we appreciated the many animals that ate the bugs! In the jungle we got used to feeling damp. Our clothes never really dried. But the experience was completely worth it. Poppy is one of the yoga instructor here and offered gentle hatha yoga right next to the lake. Wow, what a setting. Visiting the jungle is an adventure and it is really nice to be spoiled with comfortable resting areas and good food. This is a fabulous spot for people to visit the jungle.

Don’t skip a stay in Sani lodge. It's not cheap, but worth it! I don’t want to sound overly enthusiastic, but I really am. First of all, this place is community-owned by Kichwa people, and you can feel how the staff is making this extra effort to make it a nice and comfortable place. Snacks were served all the time, a bat in our cabins that got taken care of really quickly, a barman that brought us chicha (traditional local drink, look it up 😊 ) from home upon request, a very competent english-speaking nature guide spotting things you would not even have noticed. The manager was willing to share stories about the place and how it got built up as an alternative to oil industry in the rain forest. You go on trips (walking and canoe) with a local guide and an English-speaking guide, with a slow walking pace to not scare the animals, but the heat make the walks a bit demanding. We were even lucky to see a tapir one early morning! Mother nature decides what you get to see on that day, but it helps to stay quiet and have good binoculars to have a better look at birds, monkeys ect. (you can’t buy are get any at the place). In short: super kind people, very clean cabins, delicious food and fancy bar, everything well-organized and on time and of course the nature that you don’t find anywhere else!
@BeachHokie88
Our stay was incredible. Our guides Omar and Henri were AMAZING! Their knowledge and pride of the area was very obvious and they made sure our experience was wonderful. Staff and food at the lodge was top notch. Rooms were great and I grew to appreciate the lack of a TV haha! Highly recommend if you want a very active experience - this is not a lounging around excursion but you do get some down time. Appreciate how proud these indigenous people are of their land and heritage!
@Roam62870140763
Sani Lodge is incredible ecolodge and provides an authentic rainforest experience. It is in the heart of the Amazon off the Napo River. It is run by an indigenous community. It was important to us to support this community. The setting is incredible and there is ready access to explore the rain forest by foot and by canoe and paddled by your guides. Our guide Raul knew we were focused on nature and wildlife viewing. We were not disappointed. We saw many tropical birds, five kinds of monkeys, learned a great deal about things used by the indigenous community for medicinal purposes, food, etc. It is a remote location, which we loved. To get there you get an experience to ride a motorized canoe from Coca to the lodge. It was well worth the journey.
@904gregl
Sani Lodge exceeded every one of my expectations. The friendliness and service from the staff is nothing short of luxury. This place has an excellent mixture of adventure and luxury and I would recommend them to anyone seeking a “bucket list” vacation.
@poornimaajayan
One of the most incredible places I have stayed at. Every member of the staff was attentive and the attention to detail in every aspect of service was greatly appreciated. The location is breathtaking and all the activities were top notch. All the guides were so good and we really liked all the meals that were served to us. It was fresh and well made. The staff were so kind as to even bake a birthday cake for one of us when it was her birthday. The staff worked so hard. Every day the rooms were cleaned and turn down service was offered. I really loved the fact that it was so safe that we didn't have to lock our rooms when we left for the day. One of the most spectacular places I have stayed at with incredible staff.
@Travelgirl2694
The hotel was absolutely amazing and the staff and their attention was top tier. The food was delicious and the beds were insanely comfortable. Breakfast was until 11 am which I really appreciated. We both had an absolutely wonderful stay.
@BoardingPass761598
Absolutely beautiful boutique hotel. Rooms were spacious. Oversized bathroom. Beds were very comfortable. Air conditioned rooms. Delightful breakfast. The staff was amazing. Overall wonderful experience. I highly recommend you stay here on your journeys.
@berth813
Great location and service. Johnathan Espinoza was exceptional. Best restaurant in town (Julian's) but you will need to splurge. The park is worth a visit if you have time. The team is very flexible and attentive. We couldnt ask for a better way to end our Galapagos trip.
@veniciam2024
I had a fantastic stay at the hotel Del parque. The staff, including Jonathan, Eduardo, Laura, and Carla, were amazing—super helpful and friendly. The location was perfect, and the cleanliness of the hotel made for a very comfortable experience. Highly recommend!
@natib461
What a fantastic way to start the year! The ambiance was incredibly welcoming and accommodating, setting the perfect tone for our experience. Jonathan, Eduardo, Carla, and Laura were all so warm and sweet, making us feel right at home. Francesco was an exceptional tour guide and driver—friendly, knowledgeable, and made the entire trip so much fun. Highly recommend this experience to anyone looking for a memorable and enjoyable start to the year!
@GalapagosExperience
This place will truly fulfill all expectations about places to spend a moment of rest, it is the ideal environment to spend an excellent vacation, highly recommended to stay a few days on the Ecuadorian coast.
@beemer1950
This was a wonderful trip prior to our Galapagos experience. The grounds are beautiful. The food was excellent. We had a small room below the hacienda. It was comfortable and very nice. The horseback riding was a great experience. We only stayed one night. I would suggest two nights minimum as it is an hour and a half ride from Guayaquil due to the bad roads. I would highly recommend this beautiful place
@paulabR5145YI
Ideal hotel for family stay, great pool huge pool area with lovely spa facilities, gymnasium but expensive to stay, staff very helpful and friendly and safe. Within close proximity of two shopping malls via taxi service. Great food, plenty of choice for all nationalities. Several shops within the hotel. Designer shops - Expensive. Would recommend hotel for rooms, pool, facilities.
@honeybee_worldwide
My experience at the Hilton was fantastic from start to finish. The staff was exceptionally kind and helpful, greeting my family warmly and happily accommodating my ESA pet. A friendly tip: make sure to bring your documentation, as they do not charge for ESA pets with the proper paperwork. We were celebrating my mom's birthday, and the staff went above and beyond by helping us coordinate a surprise cake in our room, which made the occasion even more special. They also welcomed us with a complimentary drinks per person, which was such a thoughtful touch. The brunch offered a great variety of food choices, making it a delightful start to our morning. While we didn’t get a chance to try the restaurant this time, we’re definitely looking forward to exploring it on our next visit. The added presence of security at the entrance also gave us a sense of safety throughout our stay. The spa and gym facilities were excellent, and we thoroughly enjoyed the pool and jacuzzi. I wholeheartedly recommend booking this Hilton for a longer stay or even a staycation. We only stayed one night, so there was nothing I can say we disliked besides the sun didn't come out on our pool day! But since the pool was temperature we still got to enjoy it.
@RaviA651
This hotel was nice but the customer service was poor. At front desk asked for creamer from morning coffee in room told me not available and have call room service and they can provide it for a charge. Additionally the front desk always acted as if they were very busy even if there were no customers.
@hausi48
An in between flights stay close to the airport in Guayaquil. Typical modern American hotel complete with sports bar and various restaurants. Our room was spacious and the bathroom offered all the usual amenities. Everything you need. As our flight was in the evening, we also had day-use, which worked fine. We tried all three restaurants during our stay: the dinner "Grill" restaurant offered a variety of surf/turf dishes, although the grilled seafood platter was disappointing (the shrimps were not fresh); the buffet restaurant was used for breakfast and was fine, albeit very loud; finally the empanada/sandwich restaurant was practical for a quick lunch. Huge, well populated pool area with pool bar.
@fecjo
The hotel has a good location and the rooms are spacious and clean. If you prefer a quiet room, do not forget to ask for a room at higher floors as sometimes there are parties at the bottom floor. Of course it is the typical Hilton and does not have anything typical but for a work trip it is good
@S9260GBcarlosv
The Hotel is so beautiful, the attention of labors there are really amazing specially from Willy. The beach close to the hotel going by walking is perfect, the attactions and sports that you can make there are perfect, personally I didn´t do any sport there this time but my family and I loved this place and we will back soon for sure.
@danielabC6765OT
It is lovely how design and sustainable technology converge in a perfect place for an urban detox with all the amenities and exceptional service, everyone always attetive .Perfect location close to they airport and Manta
@5i373
Excelent experience, the design is amazing as was the service and food. We were fortunate enough to see whales every single day from our room and the beach. The staff is there to help with anything and everything. The hotel is 20 mins away from Manta airport
@saskyam2016
The hotel is like paradise, great service, marvelous food, beautiful rooms, clean warm pool. We would like to go there again some day !! The nature and the beach are wonderful, so nice and quiet and safe.
@TandTSwitzerland
If yóu want to escape from all, this is a great option. It is far away from everything. 3 hours drive from Guayaquil, 10 minutes drive from Puerto Cayo. Directly on an endless beach which is almost deserted, only few houses are on the beach. This is great for long walks on the beach. Please note that in the months of July to November there are a lot of clouds and not much sun, it can get a bit cool to have a pure beach holiday. So if you look for sunbathing and swimming you better come between December and April. But also in the colder months beach walks are nice - i enjoyed them every day! The main house has a large pool, a terrace and a pool bar where Pablo mixes excellent drinks - every day he has a new drink proposal, and you can have a nice conversation as well. There is also a restaurant and a TV/reading room with a Piano. There are only few rooms. I recommend to book a private bungalow. The bungalow has a large living room with kitchenette, 2 bathrooms and one bedroom. All rooms are very modern and stylish, really nice. There is a nice garden and terrace with a small private plunge pool (unfortunately not heated). What is breathtaking is the view from the bungalow: you look directly on the ocean, you can watch every day the sunset, and you can also hear the sound of the waves - so relaxing! Really a very nice retreat to unwind. It is hard to find such a secluded location with such views. The focus of the place is on the restaurant. They use mostly local ingredients from the own garden or the region, which is really a nice touch. There is only one fix menu which consists of several courses. Many interesting experiences, most dishes are very good. And every time there are new dishes so you don get bored. Breakfast choice is a bit limited, but ok. They should improve the quality of the bread. The staff are all very friendly. Some of them speak English very well (wich is not the case in most places in Ecuador). All staff members treat you like family and talk to you, very nice. Thanks to the whole team for a wonderful time. A few things to note: - The hotel is small and the focus is on th restaurant, so do not expect too much on hotel service (e.g. There is no turn down service, etc. ). - The main pool is unheated so can be a bit chilly in the cooler months - The prices are very high for Ecuador but bear in mind you pay for the secluded location to unwind and relax. For me it was worth the money. Definitely one of the better options for a relaxing vacation in a very secluded location!
@balsaglide
Thoughtfully Designed. Manabi is known for its food, and their food is the top in Manabi. Awesome activities, staff, views, cozy. I would reccommend this place to anyone that wants quality beach stay. Best months are December through May.
@lorneg179
Tanusas is one of my dining favorites in Ecuador. The chef/owner and his kitchen are inventive and polished. For foodies, its a Lima-quality surprise on the Ecuadorian coast. The place was recommended by gourmet travelers I respect. The faciltiies and the setting are as lovely as the table fare.
