Day by day

Day 1: Santa Cruz Island - Charles Darwin Station

Thursday: Charles Darwin Station, Santa Cruz Island

Arrive at Baltra Airport and undergo an important airport inspection to safeguard the islands. Pay the $100 park entrance fee (unless prepaid). Our friendly M/Y Galápagos Sea Star Journey representative will meet you and provide assistance as we transfer to Puerto Ayora.

PM: Charles Darwin Station

Immerse yourself in the wonders of the Charles Darwin Station on Santa Cruz Island. Witness the efforts to protect and conserve the Galapagos, and explore attractions like the National Park information center, the Van Staelen Exhibition Hall, and the Breeding and Rearing Center for young and adult Galapagos tortoises.

Day 2: Isabela Island - White Tipped Reef Shark Canal & Sierra Negra Volcano

AM: White Tipped Reef Shark Canal, Isabela Island

Embark on a delightful zodiac ride to the enchanting "Tintoreras" - small islands off Puerto Villamil coast. Spot Heron lava, Galapagos penguins, and playful sea lions. Marvel at the fairly common white-tipped reef sharks resting in the shallow waters.

PM: Sierra Negra Volcano, Isabela Island

Venture into the heart of Isabela Island, the largest and one of the youngest in the archipelago. Land in Puerto Villamil, a charming town with approximately 3000 inhabitants. Ascend the highlands to Sierra Negra slope, followed by an exhilarating hike on uneven terrain to reach the Sierra Negra volcano rim. Behold the breathtaking 6 x 5 -mile-wide crater, surrounding volcanoes, and the 12 Km wide Perry Isthmus lava field. Opt for a hike to Chico Volcano, where striking lava formations offer glimpses into the geological forces shaping the Galapagos Islands.

Day 3: Isabela Island - Punta Moreno & Elizabeth Bay

AM: Punta Moreno, Isabela Island

Explore the mesmerizing Punta Moreno on the north coast of Isabela Island, nestled between the Sierra Negra and Cerro Azul volcanoes. Follow the trail through a Pahohoe lava flow, resembling corrugated or accordion patterns, leading to a complex of coastal lagoons. This haven hosts various bird species that thrive around the lakes and mangroves.

PM: Elizabeth Bay, Isabela Island

Embark on a fascinating marine excursion, as we explore Elizabeth Bay in a zodiac without landing. Visit the Marielas islets, home to the largest and most significant penguin colony in the Galapagos Islands. Navigate through a cove surrounded by vibrant red mangroves, a sight to behold. Witness sea turtles, flightless cormorants, spotted eagle rays, golden rays, brown pelicans, and sea lions. Keep an eye out for soaring Galapagos Hawks and schools of Pompano and Dorado fish below.

Day 4: Fernandina Island - Punta Espinoza & Isabela Island - Tagus Cove

AM: Punta Espinoza, Fernandina Island

Discover the wonders of Fernandina Island, the third largest in the archipelago, and its exclusive visitor site, Punta Espinoza. Witness marine iguanas congregating in larger groups than on any other island. Observe these unique creatures basking in the sand, swimming near the shore, and occasionally blocking the landing dock. Encounter the extraordinary Flightless Cormorant, a species that adapted remarkably to the absence of predators, showcasing evolution in action. Keep a close distance of 2 meters from these incredible cormorants and penguins.

PM: Tagus Cove, Isabela Island

Embark on a captivating zodiac tour along the scenic cliffs of Tagus Cove. Be captivated by the charm of Galapagos penguins, flightless cormorants, and other sea birds. After landing, embark on a 30-minute hike to the cliff's peak, offering splendid views of Darwin Lake, an uplifted ultra-saline lake saltier than the sea. Feast your eyes on the sight of several volcanoes and inspect historical graffiti left by pirates, whalers, and buccaneers from bygone eras.

Day 5: Santiago Island - Espumilla Beach & Puerto Egas

AM: Espumilla Beach, Santiago Island

Head to the northern coast of Santiago Island, where Espumilla Beach beckons with its enchanting landscapes. This beach suffered from sedimentation during the last El Niño phenomenon, resulting in the disappearance of a representative colony of flamingos. Nevertheless, the site remains a haven for nesting marine turtles. Stroll through the Palo Santo forest and revel in the marvelous landscape that unfolds before you.

PM: Puerto Egas, Santiago Island

Journey to the west side of Santiago Island, where the alluring black beach of Puerto Egas awaits. The volcanic tuff deposits have sculpted this unique black sand beach, offering a stunning contrast to the blue ocean. Puerto Egas bears its name due to a failed salt exploitation attempt by the company of Hector Egas, driven by the continent's low salt prices, leading to the abandonment of the project and its infrastructure.

Day 6: San Cristobal Island - Isla Lobos & Farewell

AM: San Cristobal: Isla Lobos

Embark on a delightful panga ride from Port Baquerizo Moreno, San Cristobal's capital, to Isla Lobos, a small island reachable within an hour. Traverse through a dry vegetation zone featuring volcanic rocks and sandy areas. Marvel at a small population of blue-footed boobies and frigate birds, nesting in this serene site. Observe the playful sea lions forming a large colony on the beach, while shorebirds create a delightful spectacle. After this exciting morning excursion, we'll escort you to San Cristobal Airport for your mainland flight.
