Torres del Paine

Los Cuernos ( The Horns )

Milodon Cave

Milodon cave | Patagonia cruisesThe Cave of the Milodon, an impressive 30m (98 ft) high structure, situated on the edge of the Benítez hill, shelters a figure of the mythical animal encased in fiberglass . The first indications of the milodon go back to 1896, when Hermann Eberhard found excellently preserved bits of skin and excrement of such an animal, which suggested that it could have existed. This specimen of animal is calculated to have been two times the size of a man, was a mammal, and a herbivore. Inside this area there are also remains of human settlements. They are thought to have used the caves as refuges more than 12 thousand years ago.




Salto Grande

Located in the Pudeto sector in the National Park, this beautiful waterfall is part of the water supply by the Massif. The particular color of the Rio Paine has the beginning in Glacier Dickson and connects with Lake Nordensköjld, which along its course flows through the Salto Grande to meet with Lake Pehoe.

It is recommended place for lovers of photography. From here you can get a superb view on French Valley until Glacier Paine Grande and Los Cuernos del Paine – monumental granite formations crowned with black rock (sedimentary, which reflect the silent power of nature.

Ushuaia

The main island is known as Isla Grande with an area of 45,000 Km2. Its limits are established to the west by meridian 68º 36´ longitude west, the Mar Argentino to the east, while the oriental mouth of the strait of Magellan marks the limit to the north and the Beagle Channel to the south. The city of Ushuaia is the capital of the province, considered the southernmost in the world and lies on the north coast of the Beagle Channel and at the foot of the Martial chain, in the middle of the Andes Mountains. The relief is irregular: glaciary valleys, a thousand-year-old peat bogs, hills and valleys. While Río Grande located in the north, has the features of a typical Patagonian city: flat surface with smooth undulations and with the sea and the floodable valleys as the only natural limits.

San Rafael Lagoon


San rafaelThe San Rafael Lagoon National Park  has an inexhaustible source of water for many rivers, creeks and streams that originate within its boundaries. All the rivers have formed inside a glacier as the initial source and is common in the course have a lake or Lagoon.







Magdalena Island

Magdalena island | Patagonia cruisesPositioned in the Strait of Magellan about 27 miles northeast of Punta Arenas, Magdalena Island is a nature preserve that protects the Magellanic Penguins.

The island is literally covered by penguins, and in fact, an estimated 70,000 mated pairs call it home. When their chicks are counted the number exceeds 200,000.
The island has other species of wildlife including cormorants, common seagulls, dolphin gulls and Chilean skuas. Scattered bunches of Eared Seals and South American Fur Seals are found along the shoreline.




Chiloe Island

Calafate

El Calafate, a small town located where the Santa Cruz plateau meets the Andes, is the gateway to the Perito Moreno Glacier.

El Calafate has all the facilities needed to satisfy an ever growing tourist influx: there are hotels from 1 to 5 stars, as well as warm and charming “Hosterías” to stay at. And during summer there are also campsites.
It was named after a typical thorny bush of southern Patagonia. The Calafate blooms in the spring with yellow flowers and in summer with purple fruits. According to tradition those who eat this fruit will always return to Patagonia.
