  • “Soroche” or altitude sickness: Soroche affects many people during their first few days in Cusco, Puno and Arequipa. Symptoms of altitude sickness include headaches, fatigue, nausea, loss of appetite, insomnia and shortness of breath.
Rest on the first day of your arrival to the Highlands, and consume light meals to prevent altitude illness (soroche). Do not have cabonized drinks, eat fresh fruits and lemon flavor candies, also have tablets of “coramina” handy, these pills are ideal to avoid soroche. If you are crossing borders remember you will not be allowed into Brazil without a Yellow fever vaccination.
