In December, a new polar expedition vessel will join the fleet: the Douglas Mawson. This ship’s inaugural voyage will follow the route of Australian geologist Douglas Mawson's Australasian Antarctic Expedition, which took place between 1911 and 1914. Departing from Tasmania, the 24-day journey will include stops at the Macquarie Islands, East Antarctica, Auckland Islands, and Campbell Islands before concluding on New Zealand’s South Island.
During this remarkable journey, passengers will visit Mawson’s historic base and enjoy breathtaking polar landscapes. The trip also offers opportunities to spot a variety of wildlife, including Adélie penguins, orcas, snow petrels, yellow-eyed penguins, royal albatross, and New Zealand seals, among others.
The Douglas Mawson is designed specifically for navigating some of the most remote and challenging regions on Earth, while also providing exceptional comfort. After a day of exploring icy terrains and observing wildlife, passengers can unwind in one of two hot tubs, the heated outdoor pool, or the sauna, or stay active in the onboard gym. The ship also features two restaurants, offering a place to relax and recharge for more adventures.
