Ecuador has announced a series of transformative tourism projects set to launch in 2025. With consistent annual growth in tourism revenue, both local and international hospitality groups are increasing their investment in the country's tourism sector. Aimed at enhancing travel experiences, Ecuador plans to introduce new hotels and cruise options, adding to its existing network of 4,957 hotels and 15 operating cruises.
According to Ecuador's Ministry of Tourism, more than 589,000 visitors arrived in the first half of the year, with an annual growth rate of 2.88% projected through 2029, according to industry statistics. These efforts reaffirm Ecuador’s position as a leading tourist destination, attracting significant investment in the hospitality sector.
"Investing in Ecuador’s tourism not only strengthens our economy but also helps preserve our natural heritage and offers visitors more opportunities to experience our beautiful country. These initiatives will create local opportunities in Quito, the Galapagos, and Manabí while setting a standard for exceptional service," said Santiago Granda, Undersecretary of Promotion at the Ministry of Tourism.
Ecuador’s hospitality offerings will grow in 2025 with the opening of two new hotels by Marriott International and Oro Verde. While attracting international investments, the country remains committed to preserving its natural beauty, supporting local communities, and creating unique experiences for travelers.
The Courtyard Hotel by Marriott Quito will be located at Quito’s airport, catering to business travelers. Quito, Ecuador’s capital city, is a stunning destination in the Andes, renowned for its rich cultural heritage and designation as the first UNESCO World Heritage Site. This hotel, set to open in summer 2025, will feature 84 rooms, a gym, a business center, meeting spaces, and a convenient market for travelers on the go.
Another new property by Oro Verde will open in the western province of Manabí, in the city of Portoviejo. Known for its culinary heritage, Portoviejo is a prime destination for food enthusiasts. Scheduled to open in spring 2025, Hotel Oro Verde Portoviejo will offer 71 rooms, a rooftop pool, a modern gastrobar, event spaces, and a fine-dining restaurant.
The Galapagos Islands will welcome a new luxury cruise option in 2025 with the debut of the Hermes Catamaran. This upscale vessel will feature 12 convertible suites, including 10 doubles and 2 singles, with amenities such as private bathrooms, air conditioning, walk-in closets, mini-bars, balconies, and jacuzzis. It will navigate across the Galapagos Islands, including Santa Cruz, Española, and Bartolomé, offering customized itineraries based on traveler preferences. Combining the comforts of a larger ship with the personalized experience of a smaller vessel, the Hermes Catamaran is designed for those seeking to explore the Galapagos’ extraordinary biodiversity and landscapes.
Ecuador’s 2025 tourism projects represent a promising future for its hospitality and travel sectors. With a strategic mix of luxury hotels and innovative cruise experiences, the country is set to further solidify its reputation as a premier destination for both leisure and business travelers.
